Motion Name: Make our Welfare Rep the Welfare & Campaigns Officer LGBTsoc Notes: 1.

One of the main aims of the LGBTsoc (as stated in the constitution) is to raise student body awareness of LGBT issues. 2. At the moment, the committee does not have an officer who is specifically in charge of ensuring that this aim is being met. 3. Although the LGBTsoc in the past has generally relied on the UBU LGBT Officer to meet this aim, the UBU LGBT Officer is not obliged to take up membership on the LGBTsoc committee and could potentially leave the LGBTsoc without a committee member who is specifically interested in raising student body awareness of LGBT issues. LGBTsoc Believes: 1. The main aims of the LGBTsoc (as laid out in the constitution) should always be met. 2. The present job scope of Welfare Representative is intrinsically related to student body awareness of LGBT issues. 3. It is not practical to create a new committee position specifically for this as the LGBTsoc already has quite a large committee, and the LGBTsoc does not have a strong political aspect to it at the moment. LGBTsoc Resolves: 1. To change the name of Welfare Representative to Welfare & Campaigns Officer. 2. To expand the role of Welfare & Campaigns Officer to include raising student body awareness of LGBT issues. Proposed by: Kelvin Chen
