The first thirty-nine chapters (like the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament) are filled with judgment upon immoral idolatrous men. Judah has sinned; the surrounding nations have sinned; the whole earth has sinned. Judgment must come, for God cannot allow such blatant sin to go unpunished forever. But the final twenty-seven chapters (like the twenty-seven books of the New Testament) declare a message of hope. The Messiah is coming as a Savior and a Sovereign to bear a cross and to wear a crown. The Book of Isaiah is the twenty-third book of the Bible. It has 66 chapters and is authored by the prophet Isaiah. It is considered to be a mini-Bible because of its many similarities to the whole Bible. Contrast the fact that the whole Bible has 66 Books with the fact that Isaiah has 66 chapters. Also, the whole Bible is separated into 2 parts (the old testament books 1-39 and the new testament books 40-66) while the Book of Isaiah has two sections (chapters 1-39 and chapters 40-66). Look for the similarities between the themes of the whole Bible and the book of Isaiah as you read this book. Isaiahs name means the Lord saves and throughout this prophetic book, you will find many times the Lord saving His people after His people turned their backs on Him or after with rebellious hearts they broke the Lords covenant. The challenge of Isaiah was how God would bring salvation and righteousness to the world through a rebellious and hypocritical nation. God in his wisdom would anoint his servant (Jesus- Isa.61) to preach the gospel (good news) to Israel, saving the remnant (elect), blinding the rebellious and coming in judgment (vengeance) upon the nation. He would establish a new covenant people (new creation) people through whom he would manifest his light (glory) to the nations. The salvation of Israel would come through Messiah (Anointed One), and would result in Israels restoration (spiritual) which would in turn be a blessing to the world. This would

begin with the ministry of John (Isa.40) which brings comfort to the remnant. The rejection of the Messiah, and his death and suffering would not stop Gods purposes from being realized. Gods purpose of salvation would be realized through this rejection, and this reveals the wisdom of God in bringing salvation to Israel (the remnant) and the world in spite of Israels rebellion and hypocrisy. Isaiah is known as the Gospel prophet. In fact, some Bible expositors have called his book the Gospel of Isaiah. Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Isaiah mentions the gospel (glad tidings) of the Kingdom (rule of God coming to and through Israels Messiah- Christ). Isaiah is a book of salvation Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Isaiah 12:3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Isaiah 25:9 And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Isaiah 26:1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. Isaiah 45:8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it. Isaiah 45:17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. Isaiah 46:13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Isaiah 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:8 Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; Isaiah 51:5 My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust. Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. Isaiah 51:8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation. Isaiah 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Isaiah 59:16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. Isaiah 59:17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak. Isaiah 60:18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise. Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 62:11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. Salvation is a major theme of Isaiah. This salvation would come through judgment upon Israel and restoration (the remnant). Israel would rise and shine through Messiah and bring light to the nations in darkness (Isa.60). Isaiah expands on the gospel preached to Abraham that through Christ all the families of the earth be blessed: Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
