About the Workshop Day 1 Grief and its Complications: Conceptualization and Diagnosis
In the first day of the 4-day workshop, the concepts of adaptive grief (AG) and complicated grief (CG) together with the relevant Attachment and Meaning-Oriented models (DPM, TTMB, meaning reconstruction) that helps to explain these concepts will be introduced. Concepts and theories will be further elucidated through case sharing with brief video clips, these will include: 1) Margaret, who lost her husband Tom in later life to cancer; and 2) Tricia and Scott, who lost their daughter Christina to suicide. This workshop would include both new data and practice methods. A narrative therapy technique of "introducing our loved ones" to foster a constructive continuing bond with the deceased will be introduced in the morning session, and the afternoon session will be concluded with a significant video on the case of Deborah (initial assessment session), a 43-year-old woman stuck in CG after the death of her mother, which audience members would use interactively to practice identification of symptoms of CG.
