CASE STUDIES

ALEX JONES CASE STUDY

This patient needed new dentures as the before picture shows they are extremely over closed and loose.
This causes the patient to look older than her actual age and also has an profound effect on her confidence, shying away from social events. To be able to address this patients clinical and cosmetic needs, a Gerber denture was made. This was constructed using Candulor denture base material with Ivoclar Vivodent PE anterior teeth and Condyloform NFC II posterior teeth. We at 1st Dental, Sheffield and in particular, Richard Clegg the technician who carried out the work would like to thank Alex Jones BDS for the opportunity to be part of the team in this case.

KISS DENTAL CASE STUDY

A single unit Atlantis case on upper 3, Astratech narrow platform implant, placed and allowed to integrate.
1. Platform level impression is taken and sent to the lab. Normal technique of casting with soft tissue is used. 2. The case is then sent to Atlantis in Molndal, Sweden by courier. 3. The case is scanned and designed using the Astratech VAD system. This system allows the crown to be designed from the outside in. 4. The images of the design are sent via email to the lab and the lab approves or requests for changes. The new updated version out very soon will allow you to make small changes to the design online as you view them through the web order system. 5. The abutment chosen is an exclusive Gold Hue, which is a nitrate coated titanium material, which still offers superior biological soft tissue attachment but is still very aesthetic due to the gold colour of the nitrate. Even the screw is coated. 6. The abutment arrives back in the lab in 3 days. 7. A conventional technique of custom shade take was done by a technician visiting the surgery to closely match the individual colours and effects with the surrounding dentition. Before After

The crown was a Renishaw Incise Zirconia crown which again offers superior bio compatibility to gold. Once the blanching of the soft tissue had gone after a few minutes the crown was almost undetectable in the mouth. The case was done at our Sheffield lab and the surgeon who kindly provided these photos and allowed us to use the case is Kailesh Solanki of Kiss Dental, Manchester.

AN Spring Nigel OVERVIEW

Group Managing Director 1st Dental Laboratories nigelspring@1stdental.co.uk

I became a Dental Technician in 1967. I have worked in numerous laboratories over my professional working life and for the last eight years this has been with 1st Dental. There are benefits of working within a Group where each laboratory, and each person is treated as an individual. This creates greater opportunities for in-house learning as well as the opportunity to go on courses something which I have undertaken. Within the group there is a wealth of knowledge and skill, which is highly advantageous to anyone wishing to pursue a career within the dental profession. 1st Dental is evolving with technology and provides its technicians with up to date modern innovative CAD CAM systems to maintain a high standard of dental excellence. The Management Team are always supportive of new ideas and look to identify new technologies and methods of work to assist in the workplace. They are on hand to deal with any problems, personal or professional. Nigel Shaw at 1st Dental, Paignton.

Some of the Team from 1st Dental, West Midlands I have been working for 1st Dental as an apprentice for almost three years. 1st Dental pay for my college education so that I can become a qualified dental technician. They also offer other courses outside college with regards to training in specific areas of the job. As a technician this benefits me and the company so that I have clear understanding in a specific area and I can do the job correctly and more efficiently. I am continuing to develop and learn new skills through the courses and programs that 1st Dental offer to us as technicians. We are currently working with new scanner systems that I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about with some of my colleagues from other laboratories within the 1st Dental Group. This is an opportunity I may not have got without 1st Dental. Dan Barber at 1st Dental, Harrogate.

I joined 1st Dental in 2006, taking on the role of head of prosthetics for the Sheffield laboratory. At the Sheffield laboratory there has always been a friendly atmosphere almost like family, and like every family, there have been ups and downs. During the time I have been working as part of the 1st Dental team, I would like to say that the support and training I have received and continue to receive from my Manager, Gary Jenkinson and the rest of the team from lab support, has been fantastic.
