People who physically abuse their spouses are more likely to abuse children. Substance abuse by an adult may also lead to abuse of the child. Children who have been abused are likely to abuse others or develop psychiatric problems. 67% of abused children are less than 1 years old: 80% are less than 3 years old. Children can develop disorders and malformations from being abused. Some people abuse children because of stress or because that person has been abused.
