Aim: Create a Document with Text & Tables

Open a file:

1. Go to the Start Menu and use the All Programs Menu to open Microsoft Word or
OpenOffice Writer

Typing text:

Type the following text in your document

Table of languages spoken by gender


The data used in the tables below were taken from the 2008 CensusAtSchool Random Sampler.

The sample consists of 200 students, at all year levels and is taken from across Australia (postcode range
0000 – 9999).

The data in the tables below were taken from the CensusAtSchool Random Sampler. Variation will occur
between samples and you can expect data from each random sample to be different from any other sample.

Inserting a Table:

1. Go to the Insert Menu


2. Select Table
3. Set the number of rows as 12 and columns as 4
4. Enter the Data provided in the table below
5. Use your mouse to adjust the width and height of each row

Insert a Page Break:

After the table, to ensure that the remaining content appears on the next page:

1. Go to the Insert Menu


2. Select “Break” or “Manual Break”
3. In the dialog box that appears, click on page break and then OK.

This pushes the remaining content of your document to the next page.

On the second page, create the following content:

Note: To merge cells on the top of the table, Select all the cells on the top row and use the
merge cells option in the Table Menu
