From the East: From the East One quarter of the Year already gone by Brothers. Thank you for everything that we have accomplished as a Lodge up to this point, and let's continue forward with the momentum that we have. We have a Master Mason degree this month and a number of new Brothers, at different stages of their Masonic journey, that need mentoring. We should each strive to help our newer Brothers become committed Masons. Grand Lodge is just around the corner. Let us pursue all things Masonic with enthusiasm and keep Orange Park Lodge at it's rightful place. I am proud to be called a Brother with you!

Unless otherwise noted in the Trestleboard, Dinner WILL be served prior to all meetings and special events. Secretarys Corner Brothers, Already four months into 2012 and my records show over 50 Brothers who have not paid their dues for this year. Please check your dues card and if it does not say 2012, mail in your check or drop by with cash. If you have a problem paying your dues please let me know so that we may work something out before you get suspended for non-payment. I sort of reluctantly agreed to stay on as Secretary for 2012 but I sure would like to find someone who would like the job. We could start a training program right away and get you up to speed for next year. Im sure we have a Brother or two who has an affinity for this type of work. Come talk to me. Notice the Zone 3 Legislative meeting on Monday April th 9 at the Lodge. Representatives of the Grand Lodge will be in attendance to review the important upcoming legislation that will be discussed at the Grand Communication coming up soon. Dont stay uninformed.

New Quote From John Paul Jones Should Be Famous

"I have not yet begun to fight." "I wish to have no connection with a ship that does not sail fast, for I intend to go in harm's way." These are two famous quotations from naval hero and Freemason John Paul Jones, but Jesse Villarreal, immediate Past Grand Master of the District of Columbia, believes a third is more impressive. "Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, come to the sea. Come sail with me." According to M.W. Brother Villarreal, "the references to sailing and the sea touch those with naval connections, but I return to that second sentence about how the stature of our country is determined by the measure of ourselves -- not by news media commentary, opinion polls, the size of bank accounts, or political clout, but rather by the simple measure of ourselves. "It is likewise in Masonry, where the stature of our fraternity in general and our Grand Lodge in particular, is determined by the measure of our members. It is our good fortune that we have walked and continue to walk among giants," he added. (Source: The Voice of Freemasonry, published by Grand Lodge of District of Columbia, December, 2011.)

Anachronisms in the Masonic Ritual?

The word, "anachronism," means "an error in chronology; especially: a chronological misplacing of persons, events, objects, or customs in regard to each other . . ." There are several anachronisms in our ritual. In one of the degrees, an instrument not made until hundreds of years after the time of King Solomon (the striking clock) is used. The Celestial and Terrestrial Globes on the tops of the pillars are "out of time" as the world was considered flat during the period of our ritual setting. "Print, paint . . . or engrave" is an anachronism because printing and engraving were unknown until after the 14th century. (Source: The Virginia Masonic Herald)

RH Joseph M. Mark Manuz, District Instructor for the 13th Masonic District delivered the Entered Apprentice Lecture on March 12, 2012.

At our Stated Communication on March 19, Brother Mark Balester was installed as Chaplain of Orange Park Lodge. RW Bill Walker was Installing Marshal and MW Elmer Coffman was Installing Officer. Br. At our Stated Communication on March 19, 2012 it was the pleasure of Orange Park Lodge to present a 65 year award to Brother Erwin Wyn Samuels of Composite Lodge #819 in New York. Brother Samuels was raised to Master Mason in 1942 by his father. One week later he was in the Army and became a pilot in the 476th Bomb Group flying B-17s, B-29s and other aircraft during the war. He also is a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Miami where he played bagpipes in the 29 th degree. MW Elmer Coffman officiated at the presentation to this distinguished Mason.
