Brothers from our Lodge have risen up each year to field an award winning team in state competition. This year is no different. For those of you a little rusty on the ritual work just imagine how hard it is to do the degree without missing a word or a step. It takes skill, determination and an awful lot of practice. Im so glad to see new members on the team each year with no decrease in perfection. This year our team earned 985 points out of a possible 1000 to become the Zone 3 leader. Thats just 3 words missed! I have no doubt that they will bring home the first place trophy. The Worshipful Master notes that you must have a 2012 dues card to register for Grand Lodge. It is also important to keep current on your dues if you wish to visit other lodges or participate in any of the York Rite, Scottish Rite or Shrine functions. Dont find yourself on the list for non-payment of dues. You know who you are. From the East:

May AD 2012

My Brothers, another month has passed, and I am as proud of Orange Park Lodge as I have ever been. If you have not been to Lodge lately you are missing some exciting times, great food, and even better Fellowship. Our Degree Team will represent our Zone at Grand Lodge in the State Ritual Competition. We had a very successful fund raiser for RW Danny Griffith in anticipation of his becoming Grand Master. We have new members joining our Lodge and becoming active. It is a good time to be a Mason in our Lodge. Just a reminder, No One will be allowed to register for Grand Lodge without a current (2012) dues card.

Brothers: A special fund has been established to purchase a portable defibrillator for the Lodge. As our Lodge Treasury is in the red and the cost of the defibrillator is significant, it was decided to request special donations from the members. The defibrillator will also require periodic maintenance so any extra money collected would be used for that purpose. If you would like to contribute please mail your check to Orange Park Lodge No. 267, 511 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073. Mark it defibrillator fund. A one-time use of this device to help save a Brothers life would pay back the cost many times over.

Taken mostly from "The Truth is Stranger than Fiction," By Bro. Alphonse Cerza, Masonic Service Association, 1934. > At one time, Golden Lodge #5, Stanstead, Canada occupied a lodge room, which straddled the boundary between Canada and the United States. There were entrances on both sides of the border. > Washington Chapter #3 of Portsmouth, NH announced its meetings via the town crier, who received from 6 to 25 cents for his work. > In 1872 the Commissioner of Patents held that the Masonic emblem could not be used in a trademark or trade name for commercial purposes. > In Hammer v. State, 173 Indiana, 199 (1909), the Supreme Court ruled that it was a criminal offense to wear the emblem of any society or organization of which one is not a member. The court based its decision on the fact that the membership in such societies is the result of fitness and selection and that the wearing of such emblems by non-members is a deceit and false pretense. > In Robinson v. Yates City Lodge, 86 Illinois, 598 (1877), a court ruled that an expelled Mason was not entitled to the return of his degree fees. The court held that the plaintiff voluntarily paid the fees and the expulsion under the provisions of the rules of the organization does not constitute the rescission of a contract under which the fees were paid. > Frederick A Bartholdi, a freemason, designed the statue of Liberty which stands in NY harbor. The Grand Lodge of NY laid the corner stone on August 5, 1885. > Bernard Pierre Mangam, Marshall of France and Senator was appointed Grand Master of the Grand Orient of France and served from 1862 to 1865. This is unusual because he was not a Mason. He was appointed by Emperor Napoleon III.
