NORTH AMERICAN MARKET FOR INORGANIC NANOPOROUS MICROPOROUS ADSORBENTS TO REACH $2.

9 BILLION IN 2017

AND

Wellesley, Mass. According to a new technical market research report, GLOBAL MARKETS FOR INORGANIC NANOPOROUS AND MICROPOROUS ADSORBENTS (CHM022D) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the North American market for inorganic nanoporous and microporous materials was valued at nearly $2.3 billion in 2011 and is expected to reach nearly $2.4 billion in 2012. By 2017, the market should total more than $2.9 billion, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.3% from 2012 to 2017. The market for inorganic nanoporous and microporous materials can be broken down into six segments by catalyst type: zeolite, granular activated carbon, silica gel, clays, active alumina, and other. Zeolite is the largest segment, projected to account for nearly $1.3 billion in 2012 and more than $1.5 billion in 2017, a CAGR of 3.5%. Granular activated carbon, projected to total $517.5 million in 2012, should be worth $642.2 million in 2017, a CAGR of 4.4%. Silica gel is expected to total $234.6 million in 2012 and $298.6 million in 2017, yielding a CAGR of 4.9%. Together, the last three segments (clays, active alumina, and other catalysts) are expected to total nearly $335 million in 2012 and will approach $460 million by 2017. The adsorption process involves the preferential partitioning of substances from the gaseous or liquid phase onto the surface of a solid substrate. From the early days of using bone char for decolorization of sugar solutions and other foods, to the later use of activated carbon for removing nerve gases from the battlefield, to todays thousands of applications, the adsorption phenomenon has become a useful tool for purification and separation. The nanoporous and microporous adsorbents industry is mature, with a wide variety of products satisfying the requirements of well-established applications. However, expanded scope and applicability of environmental regulations along with improving living standards around the world are stimulating significant increases in demand for these products. In addition to environmental applications, newly invented specialized nanoporous sorbent products are creating novel market opportunities in electronics manufacturing and biomedical industry sectors. This report will be useful to executives at companies engaged in developing competitive nanoporous and microporous materials and technologies; adsorbent consumer decision-makers,

such as large water and wastewater treatment facilities and petrochemical complexes; directors of manufacturing who must implement new microporous adsorbent technology and products into their operations; and members of the financial community who must understand, assess, and rate the effect of forthcoming changes in the microporous adsorbents industry, as well as anyone else generally interested in nanoporous and microporous materials. SUMMARY FIGURE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET GROWTH OF INORGANIC NANOPOROUS AND MICROPOROUS ADSORBENTS BY TYPE, 2011-2017 ($ MILLIONS)
