Member Update 31 - May 19, 2012 Outcome of the March 4, 2012 SMFT/SHRM Joint Meeting and Urgent Questionnaire on SHRM Board Policies and Practices As many of you know, the SHRM Board agreed to meet with representatives of SHRM Members for Transparency (SMFT) almost one year ago, to discuss our concerns about the chang e in SHRM's direction resulting from several Board policies and practices. After the mot re cent meeting, it has become apparent as many of you suggested it would that continuing to meet is unlikely to be a successful means to achieving our goals. However, we remain committed to upholding the sound principles upon which SHRM w as founded and will continue to use other avenues to vigorously pursue positive change in Board practices. Therefore, we have expanded our e-mail distribution list to include many more SHRM regional , state, and local leaders. As a result, this may be your first SMFT communication. SMFT was formed in 2010 as a way for former SHRM volunteer leaders to voice coll ective concerns about decisions affecting the Society. Our 50 Steering Committee members includ e almost all Past Chairs serving prior to the introduction of Board compensation, several Past Cha irs of HRCI/SHRM Foundation/SHRM Consultants Forum, two former SHRM CEOs, and many others who hav e held significant volunteer leadership roles. Our grassroots supporters number in the thousands. We are reaching out to you now because we need your feedback to help determine S MFT's future direction. Less than 2% of SHRM members will receive this communication. Theref ore, your responses

are critical and will guide us in identifying our next steps. In many ways, you r feedback may determine the future of SHRM. A comprehensive analysis of our issues and relative progress is included in the SMFT Position Paper which can be found on our web site. Click on this link to access it: www.shrmmembersfortransparency.com. We encourage you to familiarize yourse lf with the issues contained in the paper, especially if this is your first exposure to SMFT. Once you are familiar with our concerns, please click on the Zoomerang link belo w to take a short, 5minute survey. Responses are completely confidential and will be reviewed in ag gregate only no response will be traced back to any individual. By taking the survey, you can play a critical role in advancing the interests of our shared profession and protecting the interests of greater than 255,000 SHRM members. Please respond a s soon as possible, but no later than 10 PM EDT on May 31st, when the survey will close. Survey Link: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22FJ2QJHQYC We deeply appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey. A report on ou r findings will be issued prior to this year's SHRM Annual Conference in Atlanta. For more about SHRM Members for Transparency, see our website at: www.shrmmembersfortransparency.com
