Marine High Resolution Seismic Recorder

The TAP TL3 is a new Multi-channel Digital Recording System designed specifically for High Resolution Marine Seismic Surveys. Packed full of features, it is very compact, portable, and easy to install and operate.

TL3 GUI -Typical dual screen display in seismic recording mode. The TL3 is designed and built by TAP Instruments Ltd. in England. TAP was formed in 2002 from the engineering and support division of TT Surveys Ltd. We have been designing and building high resolution seismic recorders since 1985, and are well known for our unrivalled after sales service and technical backup. This recording system has been designed in partnership with Lookout Geophysical of Colorado, USA, to produce an instrument with state-of-the-art hardware and outstanding specifications, plus a comprehensive array of software features and QC tools.

Main features of the TL3 Recorder


Optimized for Marine High Resolution and Geotechnical Surveys. Highly integrated all proprietary hardware for up 120 Analog channels is contained in a 19 rack mountable unit occupying only 6 U of rack height. Uses latest Cirrus Logic 24-bit delta-sigma ADC set (CS5372/5376A), giving over 120dB dynamic range. Fully flexible number of seismic channels, from 8 to 120, and auxiliaries from 1 to 8. Sample rates from 2ms to ms. Capable of near-continuous recording at all parameter settings. Simple yet powerful menu driven setup. No internal programming Programmable digital high-cut and low-cut filters totally stable performance. Compatible with transformer and direct coupled streamers. PC based controller, with Microsoft Windows XP pro, allows extensive support of peripheral devices. Dual screen GUI, allows tiled viewing of multiple Control and QC windows . Powerful screen based QC tools, including 100% Shot Gather display, channel average level Histogram display and Spectral display of input bandwidth, all with multiple options, including gain modes and display filters. Line Gather window for single channel profiling of any channel. A full channel gather is stored on disc, and integrated post-processing software enables a Brute Stack to be quickly created at the end-of-line. Hardcopy plotting of Gathers to any commercial USB printer with Windows support. No need for expensive flatbed plotters. All Data recorded to the hard disk, to increase reliability, and allow simple backup to integral DVD drive. On line recording to a range of COTS tape drives with SCSI interface. Supports networking. Data can be transferred directly to an independent Processing system in real time. On-screen line log, with direct input of navigation data and cable depths. Formatted print-out to Microsoft Excel. Can use the same printer as used for QC hard copy. Internal test signal generator, plus automated instrument test and analysis. Cable Tester, under GUI control, with on-screen display of results. Remote operation. The Acquisition unit can be installed up to 50m from the Controller, close to the streamer, for example. Multiplexed a nalog output, for a continuous oscilloscope display of data.
