Aqua vibrating separators patented by ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik are used in the sands and gravel industry as well as in the recycling industry for an efficient and economic wet processing of sand, gravel and other mixed materials. Aqua vibrating separators remove organic impurities capable of swelling and low-gravity materials such as wood, coal and plastics from feed materials like sand and gravel. Furthermore, excessive fine sands are separated when high-grade sands are produced. Thus, the feed material is not only cleaned, but also classified.

Aqua vibrating separators type ASS are used for sand processing (Fig. 1), while the ASK type is used for the processing of granular feed material like gravel, for example (Fig. 2). Important advantages of aqua vibrating separators compared to other systems: Owing to the combination of several processing steps in one machine investment and operating costs of a processing plant are considerably reduced.

The use of aqua vibrating separators guarantees high quality of the final product at low water consumption. Easy, quick and adaptation of thereliable machines to different applications.

The particularly efficient cleaning and classification of the feed material by aqua vibrating separators is based on the combination of differently acting processes in one machine, superposed by a vibrating motion (Fig. 4). The impurified sand fed to the aqua vibrating separator type ASS at a normal grain size of 0 - 2 mm is homogenized in the prethickener (Fig. 5) by adding water, thickened and then fed to the area of upward current water.

The grade of homogenization can be optimised by the fresh water quantity added and by means of adjustable discharge nozzles at the prethickener discharge. The excess water is discharged via the overflow of the prethickener with sludge, fine sand and low-gravity materials.

The ASK type receives coarsegrained materials directly from a chute. From the prethickener resp. the chute the feed material enters the troughed area of upward current water (Fig. 7 and 8), sloping upward in the direction of transport of the material and being equipped with teeter plates. These teeter plates and the vibrations of the machine transform the feed material into a dense medium, whose density can be varied by adjusting the upward current water quantity and -distribution (Fig. 6).

The vibrating separator type aqua receives the materiASS

Rear wall

In this jigging bed dense flow separation and sedimentation take place, superposed by cross-current separation at the jigging bed surface, which is generated by the water flowing off over the rear wall against the direction of transport and the countercurrent nozzles (Fig. 9). Thus, the feed material is cleaned and low-gravity materials, impurities and fine sand are discharged over the rear wall. The height of the rear wall is adjustable, i.e. the height of the jigging bed can be controlled and the discharge of fine sand can be varied. The area of upward current water is followed by a relaxation zone (Fig. 9, 10), also sloping upward in the direction of transport. This is where the countercurrent nozzles are mounted above the jigging bed and the purified feed material is settled. Further low-gravity materials and impurities are discharged with the help of a surface current which flows towards the rear wall and which is generated by the countercurrent nozzles.

The vibration drive (Fig. 6) is a forced-synchronization twin-shaft unbalance vibrator like that used in screen systems. Both linear and elliptical or in case of masses rotating in the same direction circular vibrations can be generated. For influencing the process of feed material cleaning and classifying, the following control options are available: Regulation of the discharge rate at the prethickener. Adjustment the overflow height at theofrear wall. Regulation of the volume flow and distribution of In the dewatering zone the moisture content of the cleaned and classified feed material is reduced to a specified value. The dewatering section is interrupted by baffle plates. In the classifying section the feed material is separated into different fractions depending on the mesh width and the number of screen decks. The cleaned and classified finished product is discharged at the end of the dewatering resp. classifying section. upward current water in the upward current water zone. Variation of the amplitude, vibration angle, acceleration and vibration mode of the aqua vibrating separator.

The relaxation zone is followed by a dewatering section (Fig. 10) resp. a classifiying section (Fig. 11). In this area the upward slope of the machine decreases considerably in the direction of transport (Fig. 4).

Research, development and services

ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik are attaching great importance to research and development. Committed employees, experience and the ability to tread new paths together with the innovative power, flexibility and know-how are the foundation on which the successful co-operation with our customers is built. Our experience and know-how is based on the continuous and critical redesign of our equipment according to the operating experience gained with our plants and machines. For the collection of field data ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik developed the Monitoring & Controlling System MCS (Fig. 12). This system monitors the main operational characteristics of supplied plants/machines and allows a quick, easy and reliable remote diagnosis worldwide.

We work closely with different institutes and universities in order to optimise existing resp. develop new aids for the design of processing plants and machines. When a new project is started field analyses and tests are carried out. In addition to the use of existing fundamental knowledge these analyses and tests are indispensable for the development of appropriate solutions to a given problem. Furthermore, ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik uses up-to-date methods to ensure that the best possible solution to the problem is found. This comprises the finite element analysis (Fig.13) and a specially developed point load testing instrument and

-method for the determination of strength properties of rocks. Physical properties of materials to be processed by means of aqua vibrating separators as well as processing aims vary according to the deposit. Moreover, the feed material properties may considerably change with the advancing face. In order to be able to analyse the cleaning and classification process under individual, realistic conditions already before an investment in an aqua vibrating separator is made, ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik developed a new test apparatus (Fig. 14). Our services include project research, damage analyses, planning and modification aimed at a modernization and an increase of the output of machines and plants in conjunction with a worldwide after-sales service which also covers the equipment of other manufacturers.

Maintenance and repair services offered by ThyssenKrupp Frdertechnik include expert on-site consultancy. Repairs are carried out by highly qualified staff using high-quality and tested spare parts.
