Dr Duru Shah is the Past Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Grant Medical College , Mumbai University and Postgraduate Guide for Diplomate of the National Board. Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecology to the Breach Candy Hospital, Jaslok Hospital and Sir Hurkisondas Hospita in Mumbai. Chairman of Gynaecworld Chairman of the Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ICOG) Representative of FOGSI to International Federation of Gynecologist & Gynecologists Obstetricians (FIGO) Member of the Ethics Committee of the International Federation of Gynecologists & Obstetricians. (FIGO). Representative of Indian Menopause Society to International Menopause Society (IMS) Past President of the Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India 2006

Past President Indian Menopause Society 2008-9 Past President Mumbai Obstetric & Gynecological Society 2002-2003 Member of various professional organizations both National & International. Conducts regular Workshops on Infertility at Gynaecworld a center recognized by FOGSI for infertility training. Recognized for 6 months Fellowship Training through ICOG for Reproductive Medicine. A prolific writer who has edited and authored various postgraduate books and chapters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Invited to lecture at various medical conferences and workshops both National and International on the subject of Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology

Awarded the MOGS-Dr Ganatra Charitable Medical Centre Award For Contribution to Womens Health at The Bombay Obstetric & Gynecological Society Conference July 2003 Awarded for Excellence in the field of Obgyn and Honorary membership by the Alumni Association of Jai Hind College for best achiever of the year 2004 Awarded the prestigious MOGS-Dr Saroj Desai Excellence Award for the year 2007-8 at the 36th Annual Conference of the Mumbai Obstetrics & Gynecological Society.

Contribution to FOGSI the National Professional Organization:


Growing Up program for past 7 years in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson to educate schoolgirls on menstruation, its myths and hygiene through FOGSI Adolescent Health Committee covered 4 million girls so far Initiated the Lets Talk program in collaboration with Organon Ltd to educate women between the ages of 20-25 years about contraception through FOGSI Welfare Committee- covered about 50,000 youth so far The Adolescent Empowerment Project Kishori (community based project) aimed at empowering adolescent girls with health, knowledge and vocation adopted 2000 girls in Dharavi, the largest slum of Aisa Suprabha Ganga Yatra (a 5 year project) - Rural Womens health program, was initiated on 18th January 2006, under the aegis of FOGSI. This project was undertaken to reduce the rate of women dying during childbirth which is very high in that region. Presently involved in Saving the Mother project which aims at reducing Maternal Mortality in about 40 villages of UP & Bihar adopted by FOGSI.

Body and Soul 2006 a sensitive film created to sensitize doctors on how to correctly cohert medical evidence in cases of rape FOGSI-RCOG collaboration which has given FOGSI & RCOG an opportunity to have collaborative scientific sessions, All India Congress of Obs & Gyn of India and the British Congress of Obs & Gyn. National Convenor of Accreditation Committee to develop Accreditation criteria for Maternity Homes/Nursing Homes of The Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) members A FOGSI-Government of India World Health Organization project Chairman Working Committee Youth Connect collaboration between the Federations of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) & Family Planning of India (FPAI) Conducted many Infertility training workshops under the aegis of FOGSI Contributed over 100 chapters to various post-graduate textbooks, and National & International Journals Contributed various articles to Health Magazines and Periodicals Created 6 FOGSI TIMES, a 16-page newspaper for FOGSI during my Presidential year at FOGSI in 2006 Created 6 FOGSI FOCUS, a focused scientific 80 page scientific issue during my Presidential year at FOGSI in 2006 Was responsible in obtaining and designing the first ownership premises for FOGSI during her Presidential year. Created the FOGSI FLAG and FOGSI Song.
