BRIEF 5:

NATIONAL GALLERY: THE IMPRESSIONISTS

Design the identity and branding for an Impressionist exhibition at the National Gallery in London. The exhibition is to be accompanied by book covers for the release of a series of biographies for the Impressionist artists to be sold at the National Gallery, which is home to Britains finest collection of Impressionist artworks. The exhibition is a celebration of the Impressionists who are integral to an astounding movement in the history of art. Promotion should work to remind people that such great and notable artwork is available to see at the National Gallery. This project should celebrate the work of the Impressionists who were some of the most important figures in the development of art and design. The 11 Impressionists to focus on will be: Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Berthe Morisot, Alfred Sisley, Frederic Bazille, Mary Cassatt and Gustave Caillebotte.

Background / Considerations Research into the Impressionists is integral to this project. Particularly for collecting information to use in design work. Considerations should be made in relation to the sophisticated association of high art that Impressionism is usually associated with. This should be taken into consideration in relation to targeting people with an interest in arts and culture. The sophisticated aura of the Impressionists should not be lost. As Impressionism was a profoundly socialist movement in art, the aim is the unite people in the appreciation of this art movement. Mandatory Requirements All research and development should be recorded on Design Practice and Design Context blogs.
