Brief 04
2012-13
Brief
The brief was to propose the redesign of the student hand books which each 1st year student recieves when enrolling on there specific courses. Creating a more visually engaging booklet that stands out from the information bombarding the student at the start of their time at the college.
Concepts
The visual identity for the handbooks is created through the use of a bespoke typeface which will feature throughout each handbook. The idea is to create a set of visually engaging publications that will appeal to students in creative disciplines. The publications work across print and digital formats allowing the handbooks to be viewed in a number of ways including handheld devices, computers and printed matter.

Colour palette
Each course is represented by a different colour to create individuality whilst still maintaining elements of unified identity. Each hand book will use that colour, process black and stock. The cover is minimal uterlising the large type which is course specific. All the book will fit together as a set.

Typography
As the typography is one of the primary requirements for the handbooks the type treatment that we decided to explore was to create a variety of 3 dimensional letterforms. As the handbook is primarily viewed on screen we thought that it would bring and extra dimension to the screen. The variety of different treatments to the type create a stimulating visual whilst maintaining the views engagement throughtout the publication.

Design Direction
The same type and visual style runs throughout the digital and printed hand book. The vector based diagrams representing the year and course break down are again 3 dimensional. The idea is for the year break down to be interactive, touching the different panels brings up the information in more depth As for the PDF it is designed to work as a single page document or double.
