2. OUTLINE

1) The Nippon Sharyo hydraulic hammer is a unique, new type unit completely different
from conventional ones which drive piles by lifting a ram to a certain height with a
hydraulic cylinder and then letting it to drop by free fall.
The Nippon Sharyo hydraulic hammer is an epoch-making unit employing a “double
action” method in which the ram is forcefully accelerated by both hydraulic pressure
oil from the pump and high pressure gas to augment impact speed and thus creating
greater blow energy.

3. FEATURES

1) High blow rate, providing better work efficiency.

2) Small longitudinal dimension, together with smaller size of adjacent leader and base
machine to be installed, makes transit easier.
3) Good blowing efficiency with deeper penetration per blow.
4) Small loss of hydraulic circuit, achieving less fuel cost.
5) Stabilized ram fall height adjustment because of installation of proximity switches.
6) Ram fall height can be confirmed at driver’s seat by adoption of ram fall height
indicating monitor.
7) Short stroke of cylinder, enabling longer seal life.
8) Reduced fluctuation of hydraulic pressure lessens vibration of hose connecting
hammer and base machine, and lengthens hose life.
9) Sound insulator of our unique design for pile and cap blow enables work in low noise.
10) Cushion wear alarm provides machine driver with wear information of cushion.

8. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

When ascending :
(1) Valve 1 and valve 2 are closed and valve 3 is opened.
(2) Pressurized oil from pump flows into the lower chamber of cylinder, oil in the upper
chamber returns to tank, and cylinder retracts to life ram.
(3) Simultaneously, excessive pressurized oil is stored in accumulator to reserve
pressure.
When descending :
(1) Valve 1 and valve 2 are opened, and valve 3 is closed.
(2) Pressurized oil from pump and oil in the lower chamber of cylinder flow into the upper
chamber of cylinder through valve 1.
(3) Simultaneously oil pushed out by high pressure gas in accumulator passes through
valve 2 and flows into the upper chamber of cylinder, accelerating piston rod rapidly.
(4) Cylinder extends, and ram is accelerated to create blow energy.
