Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), the authorized distributor for Japanese carmaker Daihatsu Motor Company (DMC), recalled

over 50,000 Gran Max and Sirion cars on Tuesday. The recall was made after a DMC evaluation found a potential crack in the spare tire carrier located on the bottom of its Gran Max and potential damage in its Sirions steering rack caused by water dripping through its drain hose, ADM technical services division head Ahmad Syaufi said during a press conference in Jakarta. The Gran Max tire carrier may eventually come loose and thereby endanger the driver if the car is frequently driven on rough surfaces, while the problem with the Sirion steering rack may result in rust and eventually hinder its performance. The recall aims to ensure our customers safety and to guarantee that the quality of our Daihatsu products complies with global standards, said Syaufi, of the subsidiary of diversified group Astra International. The recall will cover 36,988 Gran Max pick ups produced between 2007 and Oct. 15, 2010, 11,715 Gran Max minibuses and vans produced between 2007 and Oct. 23, 2008, and 3,227 Sirion cars made between 2008 and March 2011. The recall program would run until May 28, 2013, but cars submitted for component replacement after the designated time frame would still be serviced, Syaufi said.
