(Napa, CA) Twenty-two local organizations were recognized for their outstanding waste reduction and recycling practices at the Sixth Annual Recycling Awards on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Embassy Suites. Mayor Jill Techel was on hand to present the awards to the City organizations, and Supervisor Keith Caldwell presented the awards to Napa County recipients. The City awards winners were selected based on a combination of 1) field surveys that measure the amount of non-recyclable trash in the recycling bins as well as recyclables in the trash, and 2) undertaking proactive recycling and waste reduction efforts. The winners are among the best in the City in maximizing their recycling and preventing recyclables from going out in the trash and ultimately to a landfill. For example, the Oxbow Public Market was recognized for its model waste station set-up that helps maximize recycling

Restaurant Industry Is Leading the Pack in Mobile Adoption

The restaurant and food industry is embracing the mobile movement more than other business sectors, according to a new infographic. DudaMobile, a service that makes websites mobile ready, found that 28% of small to medium-sized businesses in the restaurant and food industry have a mobile-friendly site, from pizzerias and bakeries to food trucks. This category is far more advanced than other industries looking to reach out to smartphone users, including professional services such as locksmiths and attorneys (16%), health and wellness including spas and salons (10%), travel and tourism such as hotels (8%) and automobile/ transportation (6%). Retailer was number six on the list (5%) for small to medium-sized businesses. DudaMobile also noted that nearly 20% of visits to a mobile-optimized website result in an immediate call to the business. company, it is imperative to us that we protect and contribute to the communities where our employees, customers and industry peers live and work. The new system currently processes between 70,000-100,000 gallons of water daily with a capacity to process up to 250,000 gallons per day. The processed water can be used for crush pad clean up, refrigeration cooling systems, and other uses. The treated water not only exceeds required standards, and provides reusable water, but creates a natural habitat for wildlife, Kevin LeMasters, TFEs Vice President of Operations commented. In the processed water ponds, we have six species of new birds, frogs, geese, and a new family of baby ducks, which is a testament to the water quality. In the water treatment system, in addition to the environmental benefits, TFEs investment of over $2 million will result in significant cost savings in areas such as energy efficiency with aeration reduction, and less sludge removal. Just since Septembers installation, the winery has reduced its electricity costs by more than $27,000. TFE recently hired a dedicated environmental resource coordinator, Diana Ortiz, who will help maximize the benefits of the water treatment system and allow TFE to expand its commitment to other sustainable efforts. Trinchero has been really proactive at cleaning the waste water at their facilities, which is good for the community of Napa Valley and our environment. Sheldon Sapoznik, Napa Countys Land Use Development Supervisor noted, TFEs new system is unique and effective - we hope this will set an example for other companies to follow. The system was installed by Lyve Systems Inc. which has offices in Northern California, and is head quartered in New Zealand. To learn more visit: http://www.lyvesystems.com

Napa, CA June 21, 2012 Trinchero Family Estates (TFE), the Napa Valley-based, a leading family-owned wine company known for its distinct brands such as Trinchero Napa Valley, Mnage Trois, Napa Cellars, and Sutter Home, announced the successful implementation of a new process wastewater treatment center in St. Helena. The system processes the winerys wastewater into reusable clean water, one of Californias most important limited natural resources. TFE began the installation process of the wastewater treatment system less than one year ago and went live in September, 2011. The system is located at the Sutter Home Winery Main Street facility, where TFE produces Sutter Home wines, as well as Napa Cellars, Menage a Trois, SeaGlass, Trinity Oaks, and The Wine Cube. The process wastewater treatment system is an example of the commitment of the Trinchero Family stewards of the environment in Napa since 1948. said Bob Torkelson, President and COO of TFE. As a

9 Ways to Measure Your Brands Social Media Health

By: Jacqueline Zenn Thanks to the variety of social media marketing tools available today, there is a nearly endless stream of data available to marketers. That could make it tough to determine what metrics actually matter for your campaign or brand and why. Here are nine key performance indicators and explanations for why they might matter to your brand. 1. Share of Voice: The number of mentions of your brand versus competing brands on the social web. Why You Should Care: Your Share of Voice can be a good indicator of the consumer awareness of your brand as compared to your competitive set. It essentially shows how much of the social conversation your brand has earned or is currently earning. 2. Brand Volume: The total number of brand mentions over a given period of time. Why You Should Care: If this number isnt growing, your campaign probably isnt working. Tracking brand volume week-over-week and month-over-month can be a good way to measure the overall health of your social presence. 3. Engagement: The overall number of times a user talks to your brand on social sites. Why You Should Care: You can push out all the content in the world, but if no one cares to reply or discuss then whats the point? Social media is a conversation, after all. The more highly engaged your followers and fans are, the more likely they are to be brand-loyalists, or become influencers and evangelize your products or services on their own personal networks. 4. Interaction Per Post: The number of replies or comments you receive on a given post, tweet, or update. Why You Should Care: Similar to the engagement metric, the more times a user
| COMMERCE | Page 2 |

makes the effort to comment or reply, the more likely it is that they will grow to care about your brand and what you have to say. 5. Sentiment Analysis: The process of determining how the people who talk about your brand on social media actually feel about your brand, products, or company. Why You Should Care: Although P.T. Barnum famously said, All publicity is good publicity, its an obvious problem if your brand is consistently being trashed on social media. Also, if the sentiment is mostly neutral, that could be a sign your marketing is not making a big enough impact, and no one cares enough to have a strong opinion either positively or negatively. 6. Social Click-Through Rate: The number of times a user clicks on a link to one of your owned web properties shared via See

Surprisingly, 52% Use Their Smartphones While Watching TV

By: The 60 Second Marketer
Google has a terrific website called Our Mobile Planet that has a number of cool tools and research reports on it. When you get the chance, take a spin around its worth checking out. They have some great data on the website, including some research into activities people do while their on their smartphones. As you can see from the Pinterestready chart below, 52% of those surveyed use their smartphones while watching TV. 51% listen to music. And a full 17% use their smartphones while reading a book. When all is said and

done, this data may not surprise some of you. After all, research from Morgan Stanley indicates that 91% of those surveyed have their mobile phone within reach 24/7. Even so, it gives you some insight into how people are using smartphones as more than just a stand-alone device instead, theyre using it as a utility to enhance their existing behavior. What do I mean by that? I mean that smartphones are more than just passive devices used for inbound texts and calls. Theyre actually becoming part of our daily existence. In other words, smartphones are becoming allencompassing utilities that augment our existence and are as much a part of our lives as our wallets, our eyeglasses or our shoes.

social media. Why You Should Care: Typically, one of the goals of a social media campaign is to drive traffic to a brands website, microsite, or other owned media, thereby creating consumer awareness and subsequently sales or conversions. The growth in the number of clickthroughs can be one of the indicators of a successful, engaging campaign. 7. Key Influencer Mentions: The number of mentions by users youve designated as key influencers due to their substantial and loyal social media following. Why You Should Care: Having influencers discuss your brand and serve as a brand ambassador is an extremely powerful way to organically extend your reach within key communities. While having anyone mention your brand on social media can be proof your tactics are working, mentions by key influencers are considered more valuable since they have a deeper reach or more pull/ influence with your target demographic or communities. 8. Platform Reach: The number of social platforms that your brand appears on, or the social reach across various online networks. Why You Should Care: Your brand might be a hot topic of discussion on various forums, but your Twitter mentions are low. Whether or not this is a problem depends on the social networks your targets actually use. After all, having a popular Pinterest

QR codes, or anything else thats tied into the Android, iPhone, Blackberry, or Windows phone operating systems. Even with all these metrics, it is important to remember that there is no magic formula that will simply turn your social media marketing efforts into dollars. The social realm is and always will be a rapidly evolving marketplace of information. What all marketers know is that people want to talk candidly and honestly about their experiences with a brands services and products, they want to hear directly from the voices of brands themselves, and that they will use multiple public channels to do so.

Why You Should Care: Social media is an increasingly mobile form of communication, and posting updates while on the go is quickly becoming part of nearly everyones lifestyle, thanks to smartphones and tablets. If consumers arent bringing your brand with them via mobile apps, this could be a sign you are getting left behind. It is especially important if your campaign involves mobile coupons,

Enterprising States 2012: Policies that Produce (excerpt)

www.uschamber.com/reports/enterprising-states-policies-that-produce
Enterprising States 2012 takes an in-depth look at the specific priorities, policies and programs of the 50 states. Generally, the states fostering economic growth and creating jobs today and those most likely to grow in the next decade are defined by the following broad policy approaches: Parlaying their natural resources and historically competitive industry sectors into 21st century job-creating opportunities Paying attention to and addressing their competitive weaknesses Supporting their companies business development efforts to reach an expanding global marketplace Creating a fertile environment and workforce for a technology-based and innovation-driven economy Investing in infrastructure digitally and physically engineered that meets the operating requirements of business and connects businesses to markets and customers Getting government, academia, and the private sector to collaborate effectively to make sure that more new ideas developed by companies and in research labs scale up into industries Taking steps to make existing firms more productive and innovative, creating an environment in which new firms can emerge and thrive || COMMERCE COMMERCE || Page 7 Page 7 || Maintaining an affordable cost of living for middle-skilled and middle-class employees Promoting education, workforce development and entrepreneurial mentoring to continually fill the talent pipeline Fostering an enterprise-friendly business environment by cleaning up the DURT (delays, uncertainty, regulations, and taxes), modernizing government, and fixing deficiencies in the market that inhibit private-sector investment and entrepreneurial activity. State policies and programs that most effectively promote job creation are rooted in market reality. This means building on the existing core industries and technological advantages of a state while pursuing opportunities in growing and emerging sectors. Building on and sustaining existing economic momentum remains a key means of guaranteeing success in the future. Huge increases in food exports, domestic energy investment, a revived manufacturing sector, a burgeoning tech sector, vital demographics, and increased investment from abroad create a strong base for long-term secular recovery of the U.S. economy. Rather than facing a dismal future of the new normal, we may actually be on the cusp of a recovery that could become one of Americas finest moments. The key to making this work, for the states and the nation, lies in policies that promote broad-based, long-term economic growth. NapaChamber.com NapaChamber.com Download the full report here:
