The practice Southside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, P.C. was established on December 2, 2011. We began to operate from our current location in Colonial Heights on January 23, 2012. The practice is located at 3505 Boulevard in Colonial Heights, VA. Dr. Parris-Wilkins purchased the practice from Drs. Chung and Lee.

Meet the Dentist

Dr. Tonya Parris-Wilkins is a graduate of The College of William and Mary. Following W&M, she attended Virginia Commonwealth Universitys School of Dentistry. She graduated in 2003 and proceeded to obtain more dental education by completing a 2-year residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After completing her residency, she moved back to Virginia to teach at Virginia Commonwealth University on a full-time basis for 2.5 years. She then became Dental Director at Central Virginia Health Services, the states largest community health center. After commuting to a rural area for 4 years, she opted to purchase Southside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, P.C. the former practice of Drs. Chung and Lee in December of 2011. Dr. Parris-Wilkins is a member of the Board of Advisors at Virginia Commonwealth Universitys School of Dentistry. She is also a board member of the Virginia Rural Health Association. In 2009, she was invited to speak at roundtable event with Mrs. Michelle Obama on behalf of the National Health Service Corps. In 2011 she became an ambassador in the National Health Service Corps. She is a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow in the American Association of Hospital Dentists. Dr. Parris-Wilkins is married to Dr. Joseph D. Wilkins and is the proud mother of two boys Joseph and Anthony. The Wilkins are active members in their church and enjoy spending time with each other as a family.

Meet the Staff Tara Morefield

Tara Morefield is a dental assistant/front desk receptionist. She first began working for Dr. Parris-Wilkins at Southside Community Health Center in 2008. Tara earned her Associate Degree from Southside Virginia Community College. Tara is the inaugural employee at Southside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. Tara lives in southern Virginia with her husband Brad and son Jack.

Evelyn Ayala

Evelyn Ayala joined the practice in March of 2012. Evelyn is a graduate of the Medical Educators program in dental assisting. She is x-ray certified and eager to begin her career in dental assisting. Evelyn is fluent in Spanish.

Practice Remodel The practice underwent a remodel in early January prior to re-opening. All surfaces of the practice were given a new look with fresh paint, new flooring and built in cabinetry. The practice remodel was completed by R.O.Wilkins construction company based in South Boston, Virginia. Stop by and check out our new look!

Hours of Operation Below you will find our hours of operation for the summer season, extending from May 1, 2012 until July 31, 2012. The practice will open longer in late summer/early fall to accommodate the back to school demand. Patient of the Month------Courtney C. Lilly

Ms. Courtney Lilly is a senior at Prince George High School. Following graduation, Courtney will be attending college at John Tyler Community College pursuing a bachelors degree in nursing. Courtney was referred to our practice by Dr. Earl Shufford. Courtney is an exceptional patient because she completed all of her treatment within a timely fashion in addition to displaying excellent oral hygiene. Congratulations to Courtney, Class of 2012!

Monthly Specials Tooth whitening: Getting ready for wedding season? The practice is running a $150 whitening special. Patients pursuing this treatment option will receive custom whitening trays which are adapted to their teeth and a two month supply of whitening material. X-rays and Exam for New patients All new patients to the practice will receive off x-rays and exams for the months of June and July. Referral Program Refer a new patient to the practice and receive a $25 gift card. Insurance Plans Accepted The practice accepts most major insurance plans including, Delta Dental, Guardian, Medicaid, Metlife, United Concordia and Aetna.

Recent Distinctions Dr. Parris-Wilkins contributed an article to the Petersburg Progress-Index in February. It discusses the importance of childrens oral health. The article can be found at the following link: http://progress-index.com/news/op-ed/letters/february-is-national-children-s-dental-healthmonth-1.1269217 Service to our Troops Southside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, P.C. provides care to the troops at the Fort Lee Military Base. Two Saturdays a month, the practice participates in a troop readiness program. The practice sees military personnel temporarily stationed at the base to restore their mouths back to optimal health. Community Events YMCA Kids Health Day/Walk April 2012 On April 28, 2012, Dr. Parris-Wilkins and staff participated in the YMCAs second annual Kids Health Day/Walk. The practice distributed pamphlets, free toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. Demonstrations were provided on how to brush and floss. In addition to the demonstrations, the practice also offered participants a chance to win a $25 gift card to Toys R Us. The lucky winner is Michael Bryant from Petersburg. Community Involvement Southside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, P.C. is committed to supporting community events in the Chester/Tri-cities area.
