Team
Denver
will
create
a
one-page
wiki
on
the
topic
of
Emotional
Intelligence.
Need
The
wiki
will
be
created
for
Acme
Telecom
Company.
Acme
is
a
company
of
100
employees
that
receives
contracts
to
create
and
support
small
pieces
of
code
within
larger
communications
technology
products.
Over
the
past
six
months,
HR
has
received
40
complaints
about
personnel
incidents
and
behaviors.
The
complaints
include
the
perception
that
there
is
too
much
gossiping
among
staff,
disagreements
about
work
behaviors,
cliques,
and
even
lunch
stealing.
The
HR
department
believes
that
some
of
these
problems
could
be
addressed
among
the
employees
themselves
rather
than
escalated
to
HR.
HR
believes
that
the
staff
would
benefit
by
learning
about
Emotional
Intelligence
(EI).
It
is
hoped
that
after
viewing
a
short
online
lesson
on
EI,
that
staff
will
stop
to
consider
their
reactions
to
situations
and
try
to
resolve
them
before
escalating
them
to
HR.
Because
the
content
is
introductory,
all
staff
will
take
the
same
program
regardless
of
role.
Current
staff
will
be
required
to
take
the
program
within
three
months
of
deployment.
If
they
do
not
take
the
program
within
this
time
frame,
it
will
be
noted
on
their
next
performance
review.
New
staff
will
take
the
program
in
their
first
week
of
employment.
The
program
is
intended
as
Part
I
of
a
three-part
program.
Part
II
will
be
a
live
training
session
and
Part
III
will
be
an
online
follow-up.
These
sessions
will
differ
somewhat
based
on
staff
role.
Before
implementing
Part
II,
HR
will
evaluate
the
effectiveness
of
Part
I
to
see
if
the
program
will
be
continued
as
planned.
Audience
Acme
Telecom
employs
100
people.
Job Breakdown
50% Code writers 10% Sales 15% Administrative 15% Management 5% Executive 5% HR Male 60% Female 40%
Sex
Education level
Computer
Literacy
Although
all
staff
is
comfortable
with
computers,
some
staff
members
rely
on
their
colleagues
for
help
with
more
complicated
technical
issues.
This
will
not
prevent
them
from
taking
the
online
program.
Age
The
ages
of
the
staff
range
from
20-65.
The
coders
fall
in
the
25-50
range
which
skews
the
age
range
younger.
Languages
spoken
All
staff
speaks
English
well.
Summary
Although
all
ages
are
represented,
the
staff
is
skews
young
due
to
the
younger
age
of
the
coders.
There
is
a
large
turnover
in
coders
due
to
the
nature
of
the
IT
profession.
Topic
General
Emotional
Intelligence
(EI)
is
defined
as
"the
subset
of
social
intelligence
that
involves
the
ability
to
monitor
one's
own
and
others'
feelings
and
emotions,
to
discriminate
among
them
and
to
use
this
information
to
guide
one's
thinking
and
actions"
(Salovey
and
Mayer
1990).
EI
is
important
in
the
workplace
because
employees
must
get
along
with
each
other
in
order
for
the
business
to
achieve
its
goals.
While
some
individuals
have
an
inborn
EI,
others
are
less
adept
but
can
still
learn
strategies
to
employ
it.
Examples
of
EI
include
communicating
with
each
other,
discussing
topics
openly,
listening
to
the
issues
that
are
expressed
by
other
parties,
being
able
to
effectively
manage
conflict,
and
inspiring
each
other
to
operate
at
a
higher
level
(Exforsys
Inc,
2009).
The
goal
of
the
lesson
is
to
introduce
the
learners
to
EI
and
encourage
them
to
apply
EI
in
their
daily
interactions
with
other
employees.
Goal
Objectives
After
participating
in
the
program
the
staff
member
will
be
able
to:
1. Apply
the
four
branches
of
EI:
self-awareness,
self-management,
social
awareness,
and
relationship
management.
2. State
two
strategies
for
applying
EI
in
their
daily
interactions
Miscellaneous
The
SME
will
be
an
INTE
5160
guest
lecturer.
EI
is
a
well-established
concept
and
it
is
not
expected
that
high-level
content
of
this
nature
will
change
over
time.
It
is
not
expected,
therefore,
that
the
content
will
need
to
be
updated
frequently.
Acme
will
post
the
content
on
their
intranet.
Scope
of
Project
The
project
is
a
one-page
wiki
that
will
include:
Content
SME
input

Two

per

Learner

Strategies
We
made
a
team
agreement
so
each
group
member
knows
his/her
role.
We
all
have
a
common
goal
of
creating
the
best
instructional
site
possible
and
will
communicate
with
one
another
if
we
are
unable
to
complete
or
need
help
with
our
part.
We
meet
twice
a
week
to
ensure
each
person
and
the
group
is
on
track.
We
will
give
the
SMEs
plenty
of
notice
of
when
we
would
like
to
meet
with
them.
We
will
have

The
group
will
research
the
wiki
that
is
available
to
us
and
know
from
the
beginning
what
is
allowed.
From
there
we
will
create
our
instruction
based
on
what
is
allowed.
All
websites
will
be
tested
on
multiple
computers.
The
websites
will
be
evaluated
for
the
validity
and
will
be
checked
on
a
regular
basis
to
make
sure
they
still
work.
We
will
test
all

on
Acme
computers
to
make
sure
that
it
is
compatible.
