Philo 106 | Sir Ambong Fernandez February 8, 2012 Reflection/Reaction on the Movie: Intelligent Design: The Unique Complexity of Life

The effect that the movie had on me was staggering. It not only opened up to me the various explanations that could tell how everything that I see have been designed, but it gave me a new perspective, a new grasp on how special I can be. From the littlest cell that I have to the biggest organ that supports my entire system, everything Im composed of are all composed intricately, down to the littlest detail, to ensure that the entirety be able to work and survive. There are some lessons that I was able to realize while watching the film, below will be these lessons and insights and how I expound them. 1.) No matter how intelligent one being is, others are needed to check and balance what he/she has to say in order to add inputs that will lead to a greater truth.

Seeing the great thinkers coming from different fields, all working together and racking their brains out to come out with a possible explanation to the complexity of life, was a humbling experience for me. It further affirms the idea that in this world, there would be someone who know lesser or greater than you do. There is no need to compete with each other, but rather challenge ones self to bring about the best idea that one has, that could add to the overall knowledge of the group. This then will bring about success and gradually lead them back to achieve their objectives, or answer the questions they might have.

2.) There are 3 kinds of truth: Your truth, my truth, and the unknown absolute truth.

Based on the film, we can see how each individual have their own idea on how life came to be. These ideas can contradict one another, or it could complement, moreover supplement already existing ideas. However, it cannot be evaded that each one will have different perceptions or conclusions, given the observations. But then again, we cannot satisfy the notion that there is an absolute truth, for even us might be thinking that one thing is true, when in reality, it really isnt. WE might have different explanations on a matter, but we also have to take into consideration other notions that others might have on the said issue, since these will all be essential in leading us to a conclusion that can be considered as acceptable to all.

3.) Each one of us is designed intricately, with different parts working together, thus each one should be treated with respect and honor that is inherently entitled for our being. It is common to compare ourselves with one another. Human nature, maybe, that could further lead to insecurities, envy, competition, and etc. Even more so, it could lead to discrimination, racism, stereotyping, and more. Watching the movie somehow reminded me how specially-made each one of us arethat our existence is no mere accident. It is designed in such a way that it gets to support us in our existence, work to bring out something good, and be able to support us in doing our purpose. It is funny how we sometimes take our bodies for granted, our life even, thinking that it is worthless, lesser than others and the sort. We forget to take into consideration the intricacy of our being and the specialness that all of us has. 4.) Several explanations can be given to the complexity of our existence, but in the end, how we believe will still rely on our faith. Faith... its a term that is difficult to define. Even that brings a lot of questions to mind. However, in the end of it all, we might be bombarded with several ideas, thoughts, theories, opinions, and all---

how we perceive things to be the way they are will still rely on what we want to believe in. Yes, advancements in Science and innovations in technology has opened new doors that will further help give answers to uncertainties that beset lifehowever, in the end, it is still up to us whether we would take them as basis for what we want to believe. Faith, though hard to define, can easily avert the way we think, depending on how strong it is rooted in.
