Lesson Plan in Integrated Science I. Objectives Throughout the period, the first year students with at least 75 % accuracy are expected to: 1. determine the different preparations done before and during typhoons 2. familiarize the different weather instruments through illustrations or images 3. show awareness on the effects of typhoons in human beings as well as in the environment 4. read a weather map by knowing its symbols 5. act out a situation that shows the actual and propel scenario of a typhoon II. Subject Matter Topic: Typhoon Preparedness, Weather Instruments, Weather Maps Skills to be developed: map reading, acting Values Integration: awareness, cooperation, preparedness Materials: Scaffold, chalk, chalkboard Reference: 1. Integrated Science; Faraon, Geneiveve et at; pages 195-199 III. Procedure 1. Review The teacher will ask the following questions: a. What do you mean by weather disturbances? b. What are these weather disturbances? c. Among the weather disturbances, which is most common here in the Philippines? d. What are the ill effects of these weather disturbances? e. How do you think these weather disturbances change the lives of the people? 2. Motivation The teacher will show some pictures in the board. The pictures will illustrated the following: a. foods (easy to eat and good for 5 days) b. bottled water c. flashlights / matches d. fully charged mobile phones e. swiss knife f. ropes g. clothing (good for 3-4 days) After the students have seen the pictures, the teacher will ask the following questions: a. What are in the pictures? Can you name one of them? b. Where do you usually see these things?

c. Do you have these things at home? d. How important are these things? e. Do you think its necessary for us to have these things? 3. Lesson Proper a. After showing the pictures to the class, the teacher will introduce the lesson, typhoon preparedness, by asking the following questions: 1. When you here the word typhoon, what comes to your mind? 2. Have you noticed them in news programs of televisions? 3. What do you envisioned when a typhoon is coming to your place? 4. How do you and your family prepare for it? 5. Do you have a well organized plan if ever such typhoon will strike your place? 6. What do you think is the best way to prepare from a typhoon? b. When all have been discussed about typhoon preparedness, the teacher will then present the different weather instruments and their functions or uses. She will use the following questions: 1. How can we predict or detect a bad weather? 2. What is the most familiar weather instrument that you know? 3. Can you name other weather instruments and give their uses? 4. How important are these weather instruments? c. After the students know about the different weather instruments, the teacher will then teach the students on how to read the weather maps. The following questions will be asked: 1. Aside from the weather reporter, what else do you observe in the television during a weather report? 2. How do you think those weather reporter analyzes the weather for tomorrow? 3. How do we read those weather maps? Do we have to know its symbols? 4. Can you tell me the important parts of a weather map? 4. Follow-up Activity The teacher will group the students into 5 groups. Each group should be able to act a scenario which shows a community that will soon to be hit by a typhoon or a community that is currently crumpled by the typhoon. The groups should follow the criteria below: Cooperation 20 pts Uniqueness 25 pts Content 40 pts Creativity 15 pts TOTAL 100 pts 5. Generalization The teacher will ask the questions below: a. How do you prepare for the coming typhoon? b. What things or plans do you have to do? c. What do you expect during a typhoon and after a typhoon? d. What are some weather instruments? What are their uses?

e. How do these weather instruments help us in being safe all the time? f. How can we read a weather map? g. Will it give us more confidence in analyzing our weather? IV. Evaluation The teacher will instruct the students to get sheet of paper crosswise and answer the following questions: Test I. Enumeration 1-8. Give at least 4 weather instruments and give their uses. 9-10. Give 2 things to prepare before typhoon strike. Test II. Essay (5 pts) 1. What is the best thing to do before and during a typhoon? 2. Why is it important to be able to read a weather map? V. Assignment Cut out a picture that shows a scenario of a typhoon damaging a community. Give a brief description about it. Place it in a short bondpaper.
