Automated Toilet System

Planning Task The project given to Group 7 for Mechanical Capstone Design is to design an Automated Toilet that is capable of providing a clean and dry toilet for public use with little consumption of water and power. The following tasks have to be accomplished through the project timeline:1. Group formation Week one, all student were divided into group of six to work on the respective nominated project titles, in our case, to design an automated toilet system. Later, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Faris Tarlochan gives briefing on the project. 2. Problem definition and understanding On week two, the problem was defined and been understood. To complete the task brainstormed on generation of new ideas. Group discussion is done every week to ensure the guideline given is followed. 3. Patent and market research Patent and market research were done to find the solution and rough idea on how to solve the problem of this project. 4. Benchmarking Comparison from the engineering solution which found from the patent and ideas from the brainstorming is done. This is to ensure they do not have the similar design in the market. 5. House of Quality House of Quality is used to define the engineering solution for the Automated Toilet System design. House of Quality helps hearing the voice of customers, developing the specifications or goals for the product, finding out how the specifications measure the customer desires, and how well the competition meet the goal.

6. Concept Generation As many concept of automated toilet as possible is generated then verbalize these concepts. During the concept generation, any evaluation judgment is ignore or other comments on the value of an idea and chastise the source. 7. Concept Evaluation & Selection All concept generations of the automated toilet are based on engineering knowledge and research. Discussion was done and analyzed various practical concepts in order to finalize to a focus concept. Priority is given to the concept which meets the most customer requirement. 8. Progress Report Project progress up to the concept evaluation and selection stage is documented to show how well the progress and to rectify any problems faced up to this stage. 9. Product Design Come up with the clear concept design of the automated toilet system. 10. Product Evaluation / Simulation Automated toilet evaluation will be focused on comparison with engineering requirement and function of the automated toilet. The value of the automated toilet will be measured based on amount of customer requirement fulfilled. Simulation is to be conducted to test the performance of the designed automated toilet. 11. Bill of Material Design testing is done by conducting simulation using Pro Mechanica or Fluent or both. Material selection will be based on the result of simulation to determine the optimum design. 12. Final Report 13. Presentation
