Summer and winter time modes Manual on/off switching Deactivation of all or individual preset programmes Automatic return/rapid transfer to clock display mode

Installing the batteries Before the instrument is used, two 1.5 V dry-cell batteries must be fitted, type LR 44, V 13 GA, RW 82 or similar. To do this, remove the lid from the battery compartment at the back of the timer and install the batteries in accordance with the correct polarity. Placing the batteries the wrong way round may damage the timer. After installing the batteries, replace the battery compartment lid. The function of the batteries is to store the measurements and programmes. Operation The operating modes of the timer are arranged as shown below: CLOCK PROGRAM 1 ON PROGRAM 1 OFF PROGRAM 2 ON PROGRAM 2 OFF ... PROGRAM 20 ON PROGRAM 20 OFF CD PROGRAM CLOCK ... When the PROG sign is lit, this means that the programme mode is displayed. When the CD PROG symbol is lit, this means that the countdown mode is displayed. You can go through the programmes and/or transfer from one function to the next with the (up) or (down) keys. If the (up) or (down) key is pressed and held for more than one second, the key will repeat your action automatically. Pressing and holding again for two seconds increases the speed of repetition. 3

To return immediately to the clock display mode from another mode, simply press the (up) and (down) keys simultaneously to activate the rapid transfer. Setting the clock

1. In the clock mode, access the clock setting mode by pressing the SET key. The word SET will appear in the display, together with the Weekday box ashing, as shown in Fig. 1. 2. Select the desired input with the (up) or (down) key. 3. Confirm the input and access the next box by pressing the SET key. The Hour box now ashes. 4. Repeat steps 2. and 3. until all the data have been set. 5. For the value in the Second box, press the (up) or (down) key to set the value to zero. 6. After all the data have been set, the word SET will go out and the timer will return to the clock display mode, as shown in Fig. 2. 7. You can change from the 12-hour to 24-hour display and vice versa in the clock setting mode by means of the RND key. Clock setting by the DCF-77 radio signal (Only valid for HBT 100 F) In Europe, the timer can be adjusted automatically to the precise second by means of the radio time signal which can be received within a radius of 4

1500 km of Frankfurt am Main. If the antenna symbol fades out after flashing for more than 12 minutes, this means that the signal level is extremely weak and that the clock should be placed in another location where it may possibly be able to receive a stronger signal. If the problem persists, press the RANDOM key once in the clock mode. This will cause the clock to receive the time signal again and the antenna symbol will also ash accordingly. Setting a programme With this timer, you can set up to 20 ON/OFF programmes. To do this, carry out the steps as described in the example below. Example for setting programme 1: MO 8:15 ON / MO 15:45 OFF In the above example, the clock switches on at 08.15 and off at 15.45 on Mondays. 1. Press the (up) or (down) key to access the programme 1 ON mode, which will be indicated by the message PROG 1 ON in the display. The programme 1 ON mode is shown in Fig. 3 without any setting.

3. With the (up) or (down) key, select the day on which programme 1 should be switched on and off. The day display then goes through MO-SU (each day), MO-FR, MO-SA and SA-SU in succession, then repeats itself. In this example, you would press SET as soon as MO appeared in the display. 4. Now the Hour box should flash. With the (up) or (down) key, set this box to 8, then press the SET key. 5. Now the Minute box should ash. With the (up) or (down) key, set this box to 15, then press the SET key. 6. To conclude the setting of programme 1, press the SET key. The display will now resemble that shown in Fig. 4.

7. To switch off programme 1 at 15.45, press the (up) or (down) key until PROG 1 OFF appears in the display, then carry out the same steps as for programme 1 ON. 8. If you wish to set a number of programmes, press the (up) or (down) key until PROG 2 ON is displayed. Carry out the steps described above to set all the other programmes. 9. When all the desired programmes have been set, simply leave all the keys untouched for one minute. The timer will then automatically revert to the clock display mode. Alternatively, pressing the (up) and (down) keys simultaneously achieves the same effect. 6

Setting the countdown timing function By means of the countdown function, the timer can be switched on or off for any period between 1 second and 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. To set the downward counting time, proceed as follows. Example: Setting the countdown time so that the timer remains switched on for 1 hour, 10 minutes and 00 seconds. 1. Access the CD PROG display by pressing the (up) or (down) key. 2. Press the SET key. The word SET is displayed and ON appears ashing. 3. With the (up) or (down) key, select ON, then press the SET key. 4. The Hour box should then flash. With the (up) or (down) key, set this box to 1, then press the SET key. 5. The Minute box should then ash. With the (up) or (down) key, set this box to 10, then press the SET key. 6. The Second box should now flash. With the (up) or (down) key, set this box to 00, then press the SET key. 7. Press the SET key to conclude the countdown setting. The display will now resemble that shown in Fig. 5.

8. The countdown function is activated with the CD key. If this key is pressed again, the countdown 7

stops and the display reverts to the preset countdown value. 9. When the countdown function is active, the CD symbol ashes in the display, even if the timer is in a different display mode. Counting down cannot be started when the random function is active. During this time, all your preset programs will also be deactivated. Activating the manual ON/OFF switching function cancels the countdown function. Activating the random function The timer features an integral random function, with which it is switched on and off at random intervals. This is particularly useful for protecting your home during your absence. There are three random operating modes, i.e. 1. Fixed, short random interval mode On-time: 16 - 31 minutes Off-time: 32 - 63 minutes 2. Fixed long random interval mode On-time: 32 - 63 minutes Off-time: 64 - 127 minutes 3. Programmable random interval mode On-time: 16 - 31 minutes Off-time: 32 - 64 minutes To activate the timer for short random intervals, press the RND key while the clock or programme 1-19 is displayed. The RND symbol will now flash, indicating that the function is active. To deactivate the function, press the RND key again. To activate the timer for long random intervals, press the RND key while the countdown timer is displayed. The L-RND symbol will now flash, indi8

cating that this function is active. To deactivate the function, press the RND key again. The random function can be changed so that it is only active during a specific period of time (e.g. at night only, for the domestic lighting system). To do this, set the last programme (e.g. programme 20) to the time period in which the random function should be activated. Example: If you want a lamp to be lit on weekday evenings from 19.30 to 23.00, set programme 20 ON to Mo-Fr 19.30 and programme 20 OFF to Mo-Fr 23.00. Check to ensure that programme 20 is still shown in the display and press the RND key to activate the programmable random function (if program 20 is not displayed, pressing the RND key will only activate the xed random function). Once the programmable random function has started, the RND symbol will be displayed in steady mode during the inactive period and flashing in the active period. When the random function is active, all your preset programmes, including the countdown programme, will be deactivated. You can only reactivate them by switching off the random generator, i.e. by pressing the RND key again. Activating the manual ON/OFF switching function cancels the random function. Summer time/winter time To convert GMT to summer time, press and hold down the (up) and (down) keys simultaneously for two seconds in the clock display mode. The present time will advance by one hour and the symbol will appear, indicating that the summer time mode has been activated. To return to GMT time, press and hold the (up) and (down) keys again simultaneously for two seconds. 9

Manual on/off switching The timer can be switched on or off at any time by means of the ON/OFF key without this affecting any programmes. To switch the timer on, press the ON/OFF key. To switch it off, press the ON/OFF key again. The ON or OFF sign displayed flashing indicates that the manual ON/OFF switching function is active. Single/total programme deactivating function With this function, you can deactivate and activate individual or all preset ON/OFF programmes and the CD programme by pressing the ON/OFF key. To deactivate a specific programme, call up the programme or CD programme in the display which you wish to deactivate by means of the (up) or (down) key and press the SET key. The display will flash and the word SET will light up. Press the ON/OFF key to deactivate the programme. The X symbol will now appear, as shown in Fig. 6, indicating that this particular programme has been deactivated.

Note: The display will continue to flash. If no further change is intended to be made to the preset programmed time, press the SET key until the flashing stops. By means of this function, you can deactivate as many of the available preset programmes as you wish. To deactivate all the programmes, press the SET key in the clock mode, then the ON/OFF key while 10

the display is flashing to deactivate all the programmes. The X symbol will now appear, indicating that all the preset programmes have been deactivated. To cancel the deactivating function, repeat the steps described above to switch off the X symbol. Automatic return/rapid transfer to clock display If no action is taken during the programming of the timer, (or another mode is displayed) for more than one minute, the display will revert automatically to the clock display mode and the programming process will be cancelled. If, however, the display shows the continuing countdown time, the automatic return will only be activated when the downward counting process has ended. To activate the rapid transfer function, press the (up) or (down) keys simultaneously. The display will automatically revert to the clock display mode. Resetting (RESET function) To reset all the input data, press the RESET key with a round object, e.g. a ballpoint pen. This will delete all the preset programmes in the memory. Abnormal display If the display is abnormal or non-existent, carry out the resetting process described above, otherwise the timer may not function faultlessly. Check the condition of the batteries and replace if necessary. Technical specication Programmes: 20 programmes per day or week Minimum on-time: 1 minute 11
