Introduction
A means of getting access to any kind of information developed from two complementary technologies wireless and fiber.
High-speed multimedia Aim at combining bandwidth of optical networks and ubiquity and mobility of wireless access systems
ACCESS SYSTEM
A means by which one may input or output data from information source and get the required bit of information.
Two major types
Fiber access system Wireless access sytem
Provides unprecedented bandwidth potential Reducing complexity and power consumption Improve quality of service
Disadvantages
WIRELESS ACCESS
Aim
TECHNOLOGY
low cost and low power consuming systems Provides wider range secure connectivity
Disadvantages
New technology combining the assets of both access technology and covering their short comings Aims at providing more bandwidth and wider range
2.
3.
Use of hotspots
Existing hot-spots are typically supported by Wi-Fi access, a similar architecture is often useful to provide cellular services This approach is often useful in crowded areas such as supermarkets, airport concourses and subway stations where the macro-cellular architecture is inadequate.
SEFA TECHNOLOGY
Signal extraction and frequency arrangement (SEFA) technology is proposed in order to improve the input dynamic range SEFA can increase the optical modulation index proportional to the electrical input power Thus improves the SNR which is highly beneficial
Technique used for improvement of wireless systems applications features direct RF/IF signal transmission over an optical fiber. The flexibility of the wireless systems is significantly enhanced. Applying the SCM technique is the way to enhance future personal multimedia communications
APPLICATIONS
Majorly applied in fields where we require speed as well as large bandwidth
Implies instant access to a range of services that require a combination of high data rate low latency high reliability Serves as a speedy means of access to internet Simplify base stations complexity E.g. Motorola canopy
TELEPRESENTATION
A
presentation in which the presenter and/or some of the audience members are not Physically present but telepresent Used for training, product introductions, and general information meetings Major forms: live net shows, video teleconferencing, video telephony
ADVANTAGES
Improved the quality of service (QoS) and immunity to low line losses Large Bandwidth
DISADVANTAGES
HIGHLY IMMUNE TO NOISE 40db loss in optical to electrical and electrical to optical conversion. SIGNAL LOSSES
EXPENSIVE
CONCLUSION
Fiber based wireless access systems support high-speed multimedia in real-time by combining the capacity of optical fiber with the flexibility of wireless networks The integration of optical and wireless systems is considered to be one of the most promising solutions for increasing the existing capacity and mobility as well as decreasing the costs in next-generation optical access systems.
