CSR ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY SPORT SHOE MANUFACTURERS

What is CSR?
The voluntary compliance of social and ecological responsibility of companies is called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). companies decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment. Corporate social responsibility is represented by the contributions undertaken by companies to society through its business activities and its social investment.

1. NIKE CSR ACTIVITIES


Nike is an American sports brand. Their head office is in the USA. Nike was Founded in Jan, 1964 as (Blue Ribbon Sports) Reason -To thrive in a sustainable economy where people, profit and planet are in balance NIKE has invested in communities through a combination of cash, product and in-kind contributions. In 2007 Nike began creating a system for evaluating and measuring the social impact of the donations that they make. In addition to the financial investment, they report on the broader support given through: Employees Nike product and brand Programs

The Nike Foundation

NIKE are leveraging employees skills as well as company commitment through the Nike School Innovation Fund (NSIF), which complements and builds funding and support for public schools in backward communities Nike launched the Air Native N7 footwear product in 2007. This unique athletic performance shoe was designed specifically for Native Americans to help reduce diabetes and increase participation in sport through the promotion of a more active and healthier lifestyle

They aim at elimination of homelessness through out the world by their contributions to Homeless World Cup, an organization that supports homeless people by helping them change their life circumstances
Nike partnered with the LA84 Foundation to transform 22 sport surfaces across the city of Los Angeles using Nike Grind surfaces, made from shoes recycled through Nikes Reuse-A-Shoe program.

2.ADIDAS CSR ACTIVITIES


Adidas is an German Sports brand and their head office is also based in Germany. Addidas was Founded in 1924. Reason- For the adidas Group, corporate responsibility is rooted in its values : Maintain the highest standards of corporate responsibility in the communities in which we operate. Stakeholder engagement and community involvement are two main areas in the field of corporate responsibility. It undergoes energy-saving program with suppliers in North China and environmental workshops with key suppliers in Asia. Launch of new ranges where the products are made of environmentally-improved materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and reused rubber.

Since 1997, Adidas is involved in a project that targets the elimination of child labor in Pakistans football manufacturing industry. Adidas has engagement with the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) on supply chain management for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The company also has broad range of engagements with governments in a number of countries to help them to improve working conditions and secure worker rights in the countries where they source their products (e.g. joint letter from the Adidas Group and other brands to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton requesting the restoration of democracy in Honduras). Adidas group engages with Greenpeace, major footwear brands and cattle companies to discuss joint measures against future deforestation.

3.REEBOK CSR ACTIVITIES :


Reebok is a subsidary of the German sports brand. Reebok was Founded in 1895 -Bolton, UK but their Head office is in the USA. Reason: Reebok is a long-term believer of doing better by doing good, a business idiom created by strategic CSR. Since the late 1980s, Reebok has begun to employ a strategic CSR approach to portray itself as a conscientious promoter of human rights and labor rights.

Reebok launched its human-rights-focused CSR efforts in 1988, underwriting about $10 million to sponsor a world concert tour called Human Rights Now! to honor the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Reebok Human Right Award played vital role in positioning Reebok as a socially conscious company. Since their inception in 1988, the awards have been given to 80 young human rights activists from 36 countries by 2005 Reebok drafted its Human Rights Production Standards. It includes provisions on non-discrimination, no forced or child labor, freedom of association, non-harassment, wages, working hours, a safe workplace, and non-retaliation policy

4.PUMA CSR ACTIVITIES


Puma is an German Sports brand. Their head office is based in Germany. Puma was founded in 1924. Reason : Fair, Honest, Positive and Creative. PUMA vision unites PUMAs CSR activities and initiatives, guiding PUMAs work, partnerships and engagements worldwide. PUMA carries out its CSR activities through: Puma.safe Puma.peace Puma.creative

PUMA launched A One Day One Goal a global football movement that celebrated Peace Day with goodwill football matches played around the world, in many cases between communities previously in conflict. In its first year, One Day One Goal campaign held over 180 peace games. Puma.creative initiates aim to bring together individual artists and organizations, and provide them with a platform for creative exchange and international exposure. PUMA established Creative Africa Network (CAN), an online social networking website and cultural directory that honors africa related cultural networks. Puma.safe will continue to work towards reducing our carbon footprint, developing new sustainable products, and raising work and production standards worldwide.

5.FILA CSR ACTIVITIES:


Fila is an South Korean sports brand. Fila was founded in Itlay in the year 1911 and In 2007, South korean company takeover Fila. Their head office is based in South Korea. Reason : An 100 year old company that continuously relies on innovation and dedication. Kohl's Cares departmental stores and FILA SPORTS helps to fight against breast cancer with athletic gear 100 percent of the net profit will be donated to support the fight against breast cancer FILA combines with AIA -Athletes in Action conducts an event called school run for school rooms through which it rehabs to build more classrooms for schools at iliqan city, philiphines.

6.CONVERSE CSR ACTIVITIES


Converse is an American based shoe company. It was founded in 1908. Their owner is NIKE. Converse Inc. designs, markets and distributes athletic footwear, apparel and accessories; In all the CSR activities carried out by Nike, Converse has its hands. In 2007, Nike and its affiliate company converse started to use Liquefied Natural Gas trucks instead of diesel vehicles in order to support green fleet in conjunction with Coalition for Responsible Transportation (CRT), a group advocating for policies and public/private partnerships that encourage the use of cleaner truck technologies in port communities.

7.NEW BALANCE CSR ACTIVITIES


New Balance is an American footwear company founded in Boston. It was founded in 1906 as NBAS New Balance Athletic Shoe. Reason : Its mission is demonstrating responsible leadership, New Balance builds global brands that athletes are proud to wear, associates are proud to create and communities are proud to host The company has separate social responsibility manager , Katherine Shepard. The company's global Responsible Leadership program focuses on three core areas including: providing a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment, enhancing environmental sustainability, and supporting communities in which it operates.

The company has an extensive health and safety program for its own facilities in the U.S. and UK, and has built a comprehensive program for contract manufacturers to enhance their management capacity New Balance is an active member of the Fair Labor Association and in partnership with industry experts, NGOS, trade unions, governments, brands, and other members of civil society, New Balance seeks to drive social change and address issues New Balance's current product priorities include increasing the use of environmentally preferred materials (EPMs) in apparel and footwear, waste reduction. It includes in its warehouses various energy saving initiatives and extensive recycling programs. New Balance and the New Balance Foundation invested more than $50 million in the past 8 years in causes such as preventing childhood obesity. New Balance sponsors many other local and regional charitable organizations including military support initiatives.

8.K-SWISS CSR ACTIVITIES


K-Swiss is an American footwear company. Their head office is also in the USA.

It was founded in 1966. Its signature K-SWISS CLASSIC, the first leather tennis shoe, made its debut at Wimbledon in 1966, and more than 40 years later, is still a style staple both on and off the court. KSwiss Inc. enters into a new $35 million secured revolving credit agreement with Wells Fargo Bank.
Loans under the New Credit Facility will bear interest at a base rate ranging from 1.25% to 1.50% over the greatest of the federal funds rate. The Company and its domestic subsidiaries are obligors under the New Credit Facility

9. ASICS CSR ACTIVITIES:


Asics is an Japanese athletic footwear company. It was founded in 1949.

Reason : One of Asics corporate philosophy is to Fulfill our social responsibility and help improve conditions for communities around the world Asics was witness to the devastating March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck eastern Japan. Hence, in conjunction with its CSR activities, ASICS is committed to assisting in the reconstruction of Tohoku. In February 2010, asics launched the Walkers Rally, an effort to improve bodies and minds of people in workplace environment.

Asics implemented company-wide employee interviews in fiscal 2008. Through this system, all employees undergo an interview with a public health nurse and a nurse from their Health Care Section

Asics organized public lifesaving classes using AEDs (automated external defibrillators) thus helping them to successfully re-enter society trainings were given to employees who can contribute significantly to the wellbeing of their fellow citizens. Asics develop green products by establishing strict standards for certifying green products. The ASICS Eco Plan Mark Certification Standard consists of five factors namely Clean Saving Sustainable Recycle Packaging materials

10.HI-TEC CSR ACTIVITIES:


Hi-Tec is an UK based sports brand. It was founded in 1974 in England and their head office is also in UK.

Hi-Tec announces real richness awards providing people with a truer kind of wealth whilst championing the great outdoors and the awards will encourage members and non-members to share their camping experiences online
