It was hypothesized that there would be normalization of the body fat and body weight of midlife women following twelve weeks practice of yogic asanas

METHOD

Sixty midlife women who were free from major diseases from Trivandrum District (Kerala) were selected as subjects. They were randomly assigned to an experimental and control group of 30 each. Their age ranged from 40-50 years. Test ng: i

All the subjects were tested in weight and body fat before and after the training program. Body fat was measured by Skin Folds with the sum of Triceps, Supraspinal, Subscapula, Abdominal, Front thigh and Medial Calf.

The table 1.1 shows the mean scores of experimental and the control group in body weight category. In the case of experimental group significant differences were seen between the pre and post mean scores that is 68.55 and 66.40 respectively thet value obtained was 15.53whic was significant at 0.01 level. While no significant differences were noticed between the pre and the post mean score in case of control group

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
v Changes in body Weight and Body Fat were observed in the experimental group after twelve weeks of yogic asanas training program. v In the case of control group no changes were noticed in the selected variables during that period. v A decrease in body weight of the subjects in the experimental group was observed. v A reduction in the body fat leading to decrease in body weight. v Asanas such as Salabhasana, Virabhdrasana, Halasana repeatedly done could be the reason for decreasing in body weight. v It seems that the mid life women participation in the twelve weeks yogic asana training program was strenuous enough to cause reduction of fat.

Participation in twelve weeks of yogic asanas training program resulted in decrease of Body fat and body Weight in mid life women. Improved Self esteem Increased Self confidence Helped the subjects face the challenges of mid life and stressful events relating to aging parents, children with problems, marital difficulties or financial woes. The subjects improved their knowledge about Yoga and they were happy to make Yogic training a regular fitness program to maintain an ideal body composition and weight
