ITC's Social Farm Forestry Projects

Helped create green cover for carbon sequestration, ground water recharge, regeneration of biomass and in nurturing of depleted soils. Change the way farmers cultivate and improve yields, now spread to eight districts in Andhra Pradesh, virtually converting the State into a pulp bowl.

Andhra Pradesh's contribution of about 25 lakh tonnes is about one-fourth of the country's total pulp output of 100 lakh tonnes per annum.

BENEFITS
By encouraging farmers to take up cultivation of fallow lands, ITC has played a catalytic role in covering over one lakh hectares The green cover created has enabled ITC to achieve a unique distinction of being a carbon positive company for four consecutive years The green cover also helped in generating carbon credits.

The company has helped plant 358 million plants and has also played a role in transforming over one lakh hectares of land, where 70,000 farmers are engaged. The plantations have created an asset value of Rs 1,827 crore in the form of wood.

ITC arm to invest Rs 1,100 cr in Bhadrachalam paper plant

The setup of this plant was an ecology conscious decision in a backward area. The social forestry initiative of ITC is also playing a critical role in encouraging farmers to take up cultivation of eucalyptus, subabul and casuarina.

Work on the expansion project, which entails ramping up the manufacturing capacity from 4 lakh tonnes of paper a year to 6 lakh tonnes a year while keeping a check on the environment. ITC's Soil and Moisture Conservation Programme covers 26,704 hectares of rain fed agricultural land and generates employment during the lean season.
