PROJECT TEAM 1. AHAMED FARZAD (0905003) 2. MOHAMED MUSTHAK.N (0905056) 3. MOHAMED IMRAN (0905312)

PROJECT GUIDE : Mr. Pragash nagaiyan

OBJECTIVE
This project has 2 aspects 1. Research project 2. Practical considerations and implementation of the research project

RESEARCH PROJECT This project is based on the establishment of a TCP-IP/MPLS based VPN over a DWDM ring. The main issue in such an architecture is that TCP is bursty in nature whereas the existing SONET infrastructure is TDM based.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATIONS

In this project , we try to establish a ring architecture using optical fibers. FDDI MAC interface cards are to be used for this purpose. On setting up the connection, we will show transfer of audio and video files between two entities through the DWDM ring

EXISTING PROBLEM
Description about EXISTING PROBLEM : The maximum data transfer of the existing system is 40GB. This data rate is shared among all the users. Due to increasing number of users and services this rate must be improved

Existing system in US is SONET ring and it is circuit based. Since SONET is widely deployed, the modifications must be compatible with the existing technology.

Process flow of project (1)

Broadband transmission has ushered in the Information Revolution and has significantly changed the way people live their daily life. The Evolving Broadband Revolution in transmission has two spokes to it. The First Spoke, the tremendous growth in Data Traffic from Residential units, Commercial and Industrial enterprises has resulted in the development of 100 Gbps devices in the form Routers etc. The Second Spoke, the incredible achievements in the development of advanced broadband Access & Transport systems based on Dense Wave Division Multiplexers (DWDM). This parallel development is leading to the evolution of advanced communication architectures that takes advantage of the salient features of these two spokes.

Process flow of project (2)

Broadband penetration is occurring at both Access Networks and Transport Networks and hence the requirement to transport High Speed Data over highly reliable network architectures like DWDM ring networks.

Process flow of project (3)

DWDMs primarily are configurations that support TDMA data over highly dense wave division multiplexing architectures. In our pioneering effort we are interested in analyzing the ability to transport Ultra high speed data over reliable ring architecture using DWDMs. We are evolving a hierarchical architecture to Operate, Administer, Maintain & Provision (OAM&P) a High Bandwidth VPN over a reliable DWDM Uni-directional Path Switched Ring architecture with full protection enabled on both directions of transmission. This research project ambitions to understand the impact of transporting High Speed Data over Time Multiplexed access to Wave Multiplexed DWDM rings in the Access and Transport networks.
