it is the god-given right of every human being to appear human. Maxillofacial prosthesis serves as life-changing milestone for patient losing an eye, ear, or nose or sustained damage to intraoral structures. Therefore, Maxillofacial prosthetic materials are expected to be desirable, and attain ideal physical, aesthetic, and biological properties in order to gain patient acceptance. .

REQUISITES

Physical

Biological

Processing Ambroise Paire (1510-1590) Nasal , Eye & Ear Prosthesis

Advantage
Easy to process Intrinsic and extrinsic coloration possible Adequate strength

Disadvantage Rigidity High thermal conductivity Duplication of prosthesis not possible

ACRYLIC
Disadvantages
Loss of plasticizer Poor dimension stability Early staining Short life expectancy Edges tear easily Absorbs secretions

Advantages
Flexible Better appearance Intrinsic & extrinsic colouration

VINYL PLASTISOLS
Short life Improper adhesion Free isocyanates toxic

Advantages
Flexibility moveable tissue beds Good edge strength Coloration possible Good masking effects with cosmetic agents

Disadvantages Difficult to process. Isocyanates sensitive to moisture Poor color stability

POLYURETHANE
Disadvantage

Advantages
Inert Superior esthetic qualities Better strength Durability

low tensile strength low tear strength Insufficient elasticity Difficult to color

SILICONE

material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Future research should concentrate on two major goals. 1) Improving the properties of materials, so that it will behave more like human tissue. 2) Color-stable coloring agents for coloring facial prosthesis.

Conclusion: To date, none of the commercially available materials satisfy all the requirements of the ideal material. Each
