Test
Maybe defined as a specific

type of measuring instrument whose general characteristics is that, it forces responses from pupil and the response are considered to be indicative of the pupils skill, knowledge, attitudes, etc.

CLASSIFICATION OF TESTS FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES

According to Standardization
1. Standard Test. - Also called STANDARDIZED TEST is one for which content has been selected and checked empirically, for which norms have been established, for which uniform methods of administration and scoring have been developed, and which may be scored with a high degree of objectivity.

Standard or Standardized Test used for the following: a. Useful in psychological studies to determine the personality characteristics of people such as intelligence, aptitudes, interests, achievement, mental abnormalities, etc. b. Useful for individual case studies

2. Non-Standard Test - Usually prepared by teachers to measure the achievements of their students or pupils in the subjects they are teaching for marking and promotion purposes.

Psychological test - A test that measures an individuals ability or personality as developed by general experience.

Educational Test - An achievement test which aims to measure a persons knowledge, skill, ability,understanding, and other outcomes in subjects taught in school.

Types of Psychological Test 1. Intelligence Test This is a composite test made of parts that have been found to correlate well with some practical measure of intellectual ability, such as success in school. Usually this is called an I.Q. test and it measures general mental ability

Types of Psychological Test 2. Aptitude Test A test designed to indicate a persons potential ability or performance of a certain type of activity. - This test measures special talent or ability Ex. Musical aptitude test, prognostic test, scholastic aptitude test, and mechanical aptitude test.

Types of Psychological Test 3. Personality test - A test designed to measure some aspect of an individuals personality. (3.1) Rating Scale. A measure used in evaluating products, attitudes, or other characteristics of instructors or learners. The usual form is an evaluation chart carrying some suggestive points for checking.

Types of Psychological Test (3.2) Personality Inventory. A Measure used for determining an individuals personal characteristics such as emotional adjustment or tendencies toward introversion or extroversion; may be arranged for self-rating or for rating by other persons. This test also measures DOMINANCE and SUBMISSIVENESS.

Types of Psychological Test (3.3) Projective Test. A method of measurement of an individuals personality in which the stimulus is usually unstructured and procedures responses reflecting the persons individually.

Vocational and Professional Interest Inventory. - A test used to determine the extent to which a persons likes and dislikes relate to a given vocation or profession. - this test reveals in what types of work a person is interested in, whether business, teaching, medicine, mechanic, etc.

Characteristics of Tests
Validity, Reliability, Usability

Validity - refers to how accurate a test measures what it aims to measure.


a. The test items are taken from the subject of the test. b. It must correlate highly with a similar test of already known validity. c. It must be able to predict performance of individuals in the same subject from which the test has been made. d. The test must be able to place an individual in a group to which he really belongs.

Reliability
a. ADEQUACY. The test is long enough to contain properly selected representative items of the behavior or knowledge to be measured.

b. OBJECTIVITY. A test paper will give the same score no matter who will score it, or scored by the same person at different times.
c. The procedures in administering the test must be the same whenever the test is given.

Usability
It is easy to administer, easy to score, economical, and there are norms to compare the results with It is utile, that is, it is usable for the purpose it is intended to perform.

Advantages of Standard Tests


1. Standard tests are generally valid and reliable 2. Standard tests are accompanied by manuals of instruction concerning their administration and scoring and so there are no problems on how they are administered and scored. 3. Standard tests are provided with norms with which the test results are compared and given meaning.

Advantages of Standard Tests


4. Standard tests can be used again and again provided they are not given to the same group twice or more. If they are given to the same group repeatedly, their validity and reliability will be adversely affected because of the effect of practice. 5. Standard tests provide a comprehensive coverage of the basic knowledge, skills, abilities, and other traits that are generally considered as essential.
