INTRODUCTION

Advancement of standard telephone answering machine. It provides a mailbox for sending and receiving messages. A single message can be delivered to more than one callers quickly and efficiently.

It include voice recognition, automatic language translation. Exchange information without talking to recipient.

HISTORY

Working on the technology called VOICEMAIL. Formed a company called VMX (Voice Message Express). Invention was awarded.
Renamed by AVAYA.

TYPES OF VOICE MAIL SYSTEM


1) STANDARDED VOICEMAIL
It supplies user with a number that is answered by an individual mailbox. End-users may store, forward, retrieve and erase the messages.

2) EXTENDED VOICE MAIL It supplies user with a three or more individual mailbox. It acts as a menu for ONE-DIGIT access.

3) FAXMAIL
It automatically detects and receives faxes.

User can call from anywhere around the


world.

4) FAX ON DEMAND It supplies user with a repository for making fax document. Callers can receive forms, document, application etc,

5) UNIFIED MESSENGER It integrates voicemail, fax-mail and e-mail to provide user with unified messaging. 6) QUESTION AND ANSWER It supplies user with a set of questions that can be presented by callers. Users can program voice mailboxes to ask different question depending on the answers given by the callers.

ARCHITECTURE
Voice mail system contains several elements Central Processing Unit (CPU). Disk controller. System Disks. Telephone Interface.

The incoming call comes in form the public network and comes into the PBX (Public Branch Exchange). After certain number of rings the PBX forwards the call to voice mail system. In this way, the voice mail system can answer the call with receivers greeting.

The callers message is digitized by the telephone interface system. The CPU store the messages in the System Disk. The CPU sends a signal to the PBX through the link instructing the PBX to turn on the message waiting lights on the receivers phone.

Call Routing. Audio Text.

Call Screening.
Message Notification.

ADVANTAGES

Use of voice mail can result in a cost saving for business. The voice mail can be accessed from anywhere in the world at any time. The caller can generate the system greeting and also create their own greeting. By setting up group list the caller can send one message and have it receive by multiple people.

In some cases, this is done as matter of convenience. Callers dont necessarily need to speak to each other but just want to exchange information.

DISADVANTAGES

Voice mail can be viewed as impersonal by callers. When the voice mail recipients phone is on, a voice mail may not come through in right away. For some people, checking their voice mail is a hassle, especially when compared with the case of sending and receiving text messages.

CONCLUSION
It is a powerful application that can complete quite successful with expensive, proprietary voice mail system.
