BACKGROUND OF THE TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM


Diploma in Textile Technology program was established in 1974 and has been producing almost 600 graduates for the local textile industry.
The program is accredited by The Textile Institute, an independent and renowned textile body in Manchester, United Kingdom.

B.Sc. (Hons) Textile Technology was

started in the year 1999.

M.Sc. and Ph.D programs were introduced

in the year 2000.

Up to date, UiTM, Shah Alam is the only

institution of higher learning in Malaysia offering the Textile Technology programs.

There are 146 diploma students, 35 B.Sc.

students and 3 M.Sc. research candidates. There are also currently, 3 students working for their PhD.

Textile is the oldest multidisplinary knowledge comprising the excellent work in Pure Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Management and Arts

What is Textile Technology?


Textile technologists have scientific knowledge of the structure and properties of textiles, as well as the engineering aspects needed for conversion of fibers or filaments to all types of textiles, such as spinning, weaving, knitting, the manufacture of non-woven materials, dyeing, printing and finishing.
