About STAAD Pro.

Worlds leading Structural Analysis and Design Software. Based on FEM & FEA FEM- Finite Element Method FEA- Finite Element Analysis

What is an Analysis????
Calculation of the Response of Structures to Actions

Why to Perform an Analysis???? To Calculate 1.Stress Distributions 2.Natural Frequencies 3.Displacements 4.Critical Buckling Loads etc

Terminology and Notations

Coordinate Systems Global Coordinate System Local Coordinate system Units Types of Structures Space structure(3D) Plane Structure(2D) Floor Structure(2D or 3D) Truss Structure(2D or 3D)

Conti
Types of Members(1D) and Elements(2D & 3D) Truss Members Frame Members Plates and Shells Solids Material Properties Youngs Modulus Poissons Ratio Density Damping Ratio Stiffness Method

Typical Load Calculations

The Dead Load calculations are based on densities of materials and are assumed to be:
Material Brick Work Plain Concrete Reinforced Concrete Earth Mortar, Plaster Steel Water 24 25 16-18 20 78.5 10 Unit Weights (kN/m3) 20

Live loads are taken from IS:875 part-2

and are taken as 2 kN/m2 for floors of residential buildings, 3 kN/m2 for floors of commercial buildings, 1.5 kN/m2 for horizontal roofs with access, 0.75 kN/m2 for roofs with no access.
