Pressing Technology

Process of pressing
The process can be divided in 2 groups: Under Pressing- it describes the pressing operations that are performed on garments while they are being made up. Top Pressing- it refers to pressing being done on the garment after it being completely assembled.

Elements of Pressing

Steam- it softens the fibre structure so that it can take on an alternative shape. Pressure- it is applied to set the fibres, that have been softened, in new shape. Time- perfect timing is very necessary for steam and pressure to take effect.

It has a static lower buck and movable upper buck. Each buck has a steam supply and the bottom buck, or both the bucks are connected to vacuum supply. The shape and the size of the buck can differ according to the purpose of the machine.

Carousel Machine

These machines have more number of lower bucks than upper bucks. For ex- 2 bottom bucks and one upper buck. It works on the principle that while one part is being pressed, the operator is preparing the next part on other buck.

Carousel Machine

They are great time saver as they eliminate the waiting time involved when pressing on scissors press. It involves vertically moving upper buck with lower bucks mounted on a rotating lower plate.

Steam Dolly

It involves a mechanised tailors dummy. It has the shape of inflatable nylon bag. The garment is draped on the form and then steam is forced through it. Pressurized hot air inflates the nylon body, which sets the garment.

Tunnel finishing

It consists of a conveyer fed unit through which the garments pass while being steamed. The garments are placed on stands and passed though tunnels. A large number of garments can be finished at one time through this machine.
