First aid is the provision of initial care for an illness or injury. performed by non-expert, but trained personnel to a sick or injured person until definitive medical treatment can be accessed. life-saving techniques.

EQUIPMENT

A first aid kit is a collection of supplies and equipment for use in giving first aid.

DEFINE FIRST-AID
EQUIPMENT
A small box or bag with the things that you would need to treat someone if they were injured or suddenly became ill in a certain time.

IDENTIFY FIRST-AID EQUIPMENT

a manual giving general guidance on first aid

20 individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings (assorted sizes), appropriate to the type of work (dressings may be of a detectable type for food handlers)

two sterile eye pads

two individually wrapped triangular bandages (sterile)

clasps or safety pins to tie bandages

two stretch bandages

six medium sized, individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings - approximately 12cm x 12 cm

one resuscitation mask.

Scissors

two large sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings - approximately 18cm x 18cm

two pairs of disposable gloves

adhesive strips or band-aids for minor wound dressing

non-allergic adhesive tape

disposable aprons

forceps or tweezers to remove foreign bodies

individually wrapped moist wipes or saline solution

plastic bags for waste disposal

hand sanitiser

APPLY FIRST-AID EQUIPMENT


WOUNDS

In cases of wounds: wash the wound in clean running water. clean the wound with disposable cleaning swabs. carefully dry the wound and the surrounding skin using sterile gauze pieces. Povidone-iodine solution or other suitable antiseptic may be used on and around the wound. cover the wound with an appropriate sized sterile dressing. use a conforming cotton bandage, fastened with adhesive tape ora safety pin, to hold the dressing in place.

SEVERE BLEEDING
In cases of severe bleeding:

Using a clean cloth,press u hand on the wound.

Elevate the wound.


Apply a dressing. Treat for a shock-measure and keep keep warm.Lay the cuasality down, lower than the head.Raise the hand making tight clothing.

TRAUMATIC AMPUTATION
In cases of traumatic amputation: apply and maintain pressure to the injured area using a sterile dressing (BPC No.15 wound dressings are provided for large wounds) do not wash the severed body part place the severed body part in a sealable plastic bag filled with air to cushion the part from further injury keep the bag in ice-cooled water, but do not pack the severed body part in ice, as this will damage tissues arrange medical aid as a matter of urgency, and stay with the person watching for signs of shock
