• “perdiez” pigeon
• Cuban owls, snakes
• “ocho” palm  living fossil
Effect of Tourism on Women
• Women working as domestic servants
treated as slaves, sexually abused
• Havana known for sexuality – women are
exploited to market this
• Afro-Cuban music, dance, religion
exploited for industry
• Fidel Castro decreases prostitution.

• 1950s Cuba becomes subservient to USA
in economics, politics and culture.
