What do Student Representatives do?

What do reps do?


Represent the student body Become an integral member of the GSoM community Develop key skills to enhance employability Gain knowledge about how the institution works Help make key institutional decisions Help improve the learning experience at GSoM

Reps should generally be:


Solutions Orientated Outgoing Approachable Able to build rapport with peers Available Organised An excellent communicator Able to gather opinions

Rep Responsibilities
Attend Induction Week activities. Communicate effectively with staff and students. Attend Student Staff Consultative Committee Meetings. Attend other Committee meetings to represent students.

Consult with fellow students

Feedback to students

Present student views and concerns to staff

Meetings
Reps are required to attend: SSCC meetings Programme Committees

Reps are encouraged to attend:


Student Experience Committee Teaching and Learning Committee Research Policy Committee Research Degrees Committee Quality and Enhancement Committee

What is the Student Staff Consultative Committee?


SSCC meetings provide students with a forum to discuss: Concerns Examples of best practice Learning resources Teaching and programme content Policy decisions Support Services available to students

The SSCC process


Collate suggestions from the student body Gather evidence to support agenda items Send agenda items to the Committee Secretary in advance Read full agenda before attending the meeting Attend meetings and remember to bring everything you need Present agenda items to the Committee Provide feedback to students

What happens after SSCC meetings?


Members of the SSCC will: Make recommendations for improvement to the Student Experience Committee Ensure that student feedback is incorporated into decision making at the School

How reps deal with issues


Remain impartial and professional Speak to other students if it is a general issue Gather as much information as possible about the nature of the issue If the matter is urgent, discuss the issue with the appropriate Programme or Module Leader If the matter is not urgent, raise the issue at the next SSCC meeting
