INTRODUCTION
Area 51 is said to be a U.S. military facility dedicated to the development and testing of aircraft. However, it is thought (or hoped) to be a centre for top-secret UFO and supernatural research The site is disclaimed as the place where the U.S. Military develops, tests and trains new aircraft (U-2, Blackbird and F-117). It is also affiliated with the development of experimental weapons systems Followers of its supernatural connotations believe in theories ranging from extraterrestrial encounters to a faked lunar landing to the development of teleportation The truth about the activity behind Area 51s high-security gates is subjective and almost impossible to prove. However, its secrecy has spawned a sub-culture of UFO followers and has made the otherwise boring, dried-up lake a U.S. landmark

GEOGRAPHY

Area 51 is generally located in Nevada, U.S.A It is situated 90 miles north of Las Vegas The site is positioned in a dried up area called Groom Lake The small town of Rachel, Nevada (dubbed the UFO Capital) is the closest inhabited place to Area 51 Also close by is an area called Papoose Lake The Yucca Mountain nuclear storage facility is within a few miles in proximity State Route 375 is nearby, as well, and has been dubbed the Extraterrestrial Highway

Select organizations affiliated with Area 51: EG&Gs business is not completely clear, but it is said to be a government contractor affiliated with Area 51, possibly providing guard services, as well Lockheed Martin is an advanced technology company, aerospace manufacturer and defence contractor said to be in business with Area 51 Wackenhut Security Services was founded by former FBI agent George Wackenhut. It provides security for many government facilities, and has been accused of doing so for Area 51
