BRAND PROMOTION GRANT

Objectives:
• To develop and promote in the international market,
brand names owned by Malaysian companies for
products and services originating from Malaysia.
GUIDELINES
• Grant approved is based on the projected
spending over a 2 year time frame
• Not more than 10% of total grant approved
should be spent on domestic branding
activities
• Grant is given to one brand per company
FORMS OF GRANTS

SMEs
• 100% reimbursable grant of up to a maximum
of RM1 million per company per brand.

• A combination of 100% and 50% reimbursable grants.


(Maximum grant of RM 2 million per company).

Non SMEs
50% reimbursable grant of up to a maximum of RM2
million per company per brand.
DEFINITION OF SME

Manufacturing Sector
Annual sales turnover less than RM25 million,
or full-time employees not more than 150 people.

Services Sector
Annual sales turnover less than RM5 million,
or full- time employees not more than 50 people.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAS
• Company incorporated under Companies Act 1965.
• At least 60% equity owned by Malaysians.
• Company owns the brand i.e. registered owner of
the trademark.
• For focus market, company must own the

trademark or at least have filed for the trademark


registration in one of the markets.
• Annual sales turnover of not more than RM250
million. (based on latest financial report)
•Growth in export sales over the last 3 years
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAS

• Product/services are already exported with at


least 20% of sales derived from export. For
companies that do not meet 20% export
condition, the application may be considered
based on:
 Resources invested on branding and
company’s commitment to the branding
programme
 Promotion programmes and activities
undertaken by company to promote brand
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAS

 Indication of market penetration and


consumer acceptance (e.g. share market)
both local and overseas
 Trend in overall sales and export growth
 Awards and recognitions received
 Obtained international quality certifications
such as HACCP, ISO or Quality Improvement
Programme, GMP or approved the use of the
“Malaysia Best” Quality seal

• Brand Consultancy fees (not more than 10% of total


approved)
- Brand Strategy
- Brand Manual

• Brand Development
- Logo Design and redesign
- Packaging Design & redesign
- IP matters (excluding renewal of trademark and
patent)
- Brand Training
ELIGIBLE EXPENSES FOR
REIMBURSEMENT
• Brand Promotion
- CRM systems
- Advertising & Promotions (not more than
50% of total approved)
- Enhancement of brand website (maximum grant
RM50,000)
• Brand Research
- Brand Audit
- Brand Tracking
