Physical dependence (Addiction) Psychological dependence (Habituation)

MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF DRUG ADDICTION:

An overpowering compulsion to take drugs (Dependence) A tendency to increase the dose ( Tolerance) Feeling of restlessness, pain and other physical problems on withdrawal (Withdrawal Syndrome) Detrimental effects on individual and society

ISLAMIC VIEW ON USE OF DRUGS:

Allah states in the Holy Qur'an: Satans

plan is to sow hatred and enmity amongst you with intoxicants and gambling, and to hamper you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. Will you not give up?

ISLAMIC VIEW ON USE OF DRUGS:

Holy Prophet (PBUH) said,

Every intoxicant is like alcohol, and every (type

of) alcohol is prohibited. (Muslim)

"Whosoever drinks wine, whip him. If he repeats it for the fourth time, kill him.

ISLAMIC VIEW ON USE OF DRUGS:

In another Hadith the Prophet has described intoxicants as: 1. The key to all evils. 2. The head of all errors and lapses. 3.The most terrible of major sins. 4. The mother of all atrocities. 5. The mother of all evils.

ISLAMIC VIEW ON SMOKING:

Arab scholars are of the view that smoking is Haraam as it is a slow method of suicide and commiting suicide is haraam in Islam.
Allah states: "And do not throw yourself into destruction with your own hands."

Do not harm yourselves or others.'

ISLAMIC VIEW ON SMOKING:

Scholars from the Indian Sub Continent are of the view that smoking is Makruh Tahrimi

Makruh Tahrimi is a disliked act very close to Haram.

1. PHYSICAL SIGNS
Bloodshot eyes, pupils larger or smaller than usual Changes in appetite or sleep patterns. Sudden weight loss or weight gain Deterioration of physical appearance Unusual smells on breath, body, or clothing Tremors, slurred speech, or impaired coordination
