Quick Tips: When making the slides...

Shoot them with bullets "Less is more on a slide show Too much information on a single slide becomes unreadable Present your content in the form of four to five bulleted points per slide; anything more and you end up creating clutter. your slide readable adds to the overall impact of your presentation Let your bullets be visible.
9/3/2013 16

Quick Tips: When making the slides...

Try to use a font size of 24-28. Don't let each bulleted point be too lengthy. Limit it to six words in one line -- use short sentences. Try to restrict it to six lines in a slide. Contrast the text with the background. To highlight certain important information, present that text in a larger font size.
9/3/2013 17

Few Tips

9/3/2013

18

1. Compose Slides
Dont copy & paste slides from different sources. Keep the design very basic and simple. It shall not distract. Pick an easy to read font face. Carefully select font sizes for headers and text. Leave room for highlights, such as images or take home messages. Decorate scarcely but well.
9/3/2013 19

2. Use Consistency
Consistently use the same font face and sizes on all slides. Match colors. You may use your company logo, highlight headers, create a special frame for figures/images or the whole slide dont overload your slides with these elements. Colors A poor choice of colors can shatter a presentation.
9/3/2013 20

3. Use Contrast
Black text on a white background will always be the best but also the most boring choice. If you want to play with colors, keep it easy on the eyes always keep good contrast in mind so that your readers do not have to strain to guess what youve typed on your slide.

9/3/2013

21

4. Apply Brilliance
Carefully use color to highlight your message! Dont weaken the color effect by using too many colors at an instance. Make a brilliant choice: match colors for design and good contrast to highlight your message.

9/3/2013

22

5. KISS
Keep It Straight and Simple. Keywords only. No sentences! Never read your slides, talk freely. Remember that your slides are only there to support, not to replace your talk! Youll want to tell a story, describe your data or explain circumstances, and only provide keywords through your slides. If you read your slides and if you do it slow and badly, the audience will get bored and stop listening.
9/3/2013 23

6. Take Home Message

Always express a Take Home Message. Its your message, a summary of your data or story. Make it a highlight that stands out. Images Images are key elements of every presentation. Your audience has ears and eyes theyll want to see what youre talking about, a good visual cue will help them to understand your message much better
9/3/2013 24

7. Add Images
Have more images in your slides than text. But do not use images to decorate! Images can reinforce or complement your message. Images can reinforce or complement your message. Use images to visualize and explain. A picture can say more than a thousand words.
9/3/2013 25

7. Add Images
Animations & Media In animations, there is a fine line between a comic or professional impression. However, animations can be rather powerful tools to visualize & explain complicated matters. A good animation can not only improve understanding, but can also make the message stick with your audience.

Present Your Presentation

9/3/2013 27

Useful Tips: When Presenting...

Your PPT is not a Teleprompter -Don't commit the cardinal sin of reading out your slides word for word. -PPT slides are to be used as a visual communication aid and not as a teleprompter for the speaker. Get out of the way -Make sure you are not blocking the audience's view. -Use a laser beam to identify the points on the screen, never your arm. Go slow -Don't rush through your slide show. -Give about 30 seconds to two minutes for the images on your slide show to make an impact. -This will also give you time to answer questions and make your point.
9/3/2013 28

Useful Tips: When Presenting...

Do dummy runs -Don't make the first presentation to your audience. -You should do the entire presentation by yourself (in front of a mirror, if possible). -See how it flows and how long it takes. It's not just technology -PowerPoint may be a great piece of technology, but your effectiveness as a public speaker will eventually dictate the impact. -Dress smartly. -Entertain the audience with some amount of planned humor. -Share anecdotes and stories. -Don't talk in a monotone. Pack in enthusiasm and energy into your voice. -And, if you do goof up, never apologize -- take a breath, smile and move on.
9/3/2013 29

Dont Be Silly
Use animations and media sparingly. Use animations to draw attention Use animations to clarify a model or emphasize an effect. Target & Content Your target i.e. your audience, defines the content of your presentation.

Keep Your Audience In Mind

What do they know? What do you need to tell them? What do they expect? What will be interesting to them? What can you teach them? What will keep them focused? Answer these questions and boil your slides down to the very essentials. In your talk, describe the essentials colorfully and choose your weapons i.e. text, images and animations wisely . If you lose the attention of your audience, everything will be lost it wont matter how ingenious your design or how brilliantly you picked colors and keywords
9/3/2013 31

Practice
A well-prepared & enthusiastic talk will help you convince your audience Maintain their attention. Some key points: Know your slides inside out. Speak freely. Speak with confidence loud and clear. Dont speak too fast. Maintain eye contact with the audience.
9/3/2013 32

Smart tips...
Go blank: If you want the audience to take their eyes off the slides, just put the presentation on slide show mode and press 'B' on your keyboard. This will blank out the screen and you will have the audience's attention. Press 'B' again and you are back. Navigate: If you have to navigate through slides, you can simply type in the slide number and press 'Enter'.
9/3/2013 33

Smart tips...
Add speaker notes: Worried about forgetting your script? Go to the slide for which you want to add notes. Go to the 'View' menu and select 'Notes'. Click the text placeholder and begin typing your speaker notes. Only YOU can see these notes, so your audience will leave your presentation, impressed with your ability to say smart things at the right time. Try it out, it's really cool.
