The story of the eagle…
The eagle has the longest life-span of
its’ species
It can live up to 70 years
But to reach this age, the eagle must
make a hard decision
In its’ 40’s

Its’ long and flexible talons can no

longer grab prey which serves as food
Its’ long and sharp beak becomes bent
Its’ old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers,
become stuck to its’ chest and make it difficult to fly
Then, the eagle is left with
only two options: die or go
through a painful process of
change which lasts 150
days.
The process requires
that the eagle fly to a
mountain top and sit
on its’ nest
There the eagle
knocks its’ beak
against a rock
until it plucks it
out
After plucking
it out, the eagle
will wait for a
new beak to
grow back and
then it will
pluck out its’
talons
When its’ new
talons grow back,
the eagle starts
plucking its’ old-
aged feathers
And after five
months, the eagle
takes its’ famous
flight of rebirth and
lives for ...

30 more years

How can ICTs help expand access to education?
ICTs are a potentially powerful tool for extending
educational opportunities, both formal and non-formal,
to previously underserved constituencies—scattered and
rural populations, groups traditionally
excluded from education due to cultural or social reasons
such as ethnic minorities, girls and women,
persons with disabilities, and the elderly, as well as all
others who for reasons of cost or because of time
constraints are unable to enroll on campus.
Anytime, anywhere. One defining feature of ICTs
is their ability to transcend time and space.
ICTs make possible asynchronous learning, or
learning characterized by a time lag between the
delivery of instruction and its reception by
learners.Online course materials, for example,may
be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Access to remote learning resources. Teachers
and learners no longer have to rely solely on
printed books and other materials in physical
media housed in libraries (and available in limited
quantities) for their educational needs. With the
Internet and the World Wide Web, a wealth of
learning materials in almost every subject and in a
variety of media can now be accessed from
anywhere at anytime of the day and by an
unlimited number of people.

CORPORATE LESSONS FOR CHANGE

How does the use of ICTs help prepare individuals for
the workplace?
One of the most commonly cited reasons for using ICTs in
the classroom has been to better prepare
the current generation of students for a workplace where
ICTs,particularly computers, the Internet and
related technologies, are becoming more and more
ubiquitous.Technological literacy, or the ability to
use ICTs effectively and efficiently, is thus seen as
representing a competitive edge in an increasingly
globalizing job market.
Skills Needed in the Workplace of the Future
Digital Age Literacy
Functional literacy Ability to decipher meaning and express ideas in a
range of media; this includes the use of
images, graphics, video, charts and graphs or visual literacy
Scientific literacy Understanding of both the theoretical and applied
aspects of science and mathematics
Technological literacy Competence in the use of information and
communication technologies
Information literacy Ability to find, evaluate and make appropriate use
of information, including via the use of ICTs
Cultural literacy Appreciation of the diversity of cultures
Global awareness Understanding of how nations, corporations, and
communities all over the world are interrelated
Inventive Thinking
Adaptability Ability to adapt and
manage in a complex,
interdependent world
Curiosity Desire to know
Creativity Ability to use imagination
to create new things
Risk-taking Ability to take risks
How can the use of ICTs help improve the quality of
education?
Improving the quality of education and training is a critical
issue, particularly at a time of educational
expansion. ICTs can enhance the quality of education in
several ways: by increasing learner motivation
and engagement,by facilitating the acquisition of basic
skills, and by enhancing teacher training.
ICTs are also transformational tools which, when used
appropriately, can promote the shift to a learner-centered
environment.
Motivating to learn. ICTs such as
videos, television and multimedia
computer software that combine
text, sound, and colorful, moving
images can be used to provide
challenging and authentic content
that will engage the student in the
learning process.
Facilitating the acquisition of basic
skills. The transmission of basic skills
and concepts that are the
foundation of higher order thinking
skills and creativity can be facilitated by
ICTs through drill and
practice.
Enhancing teacher training. ICTs
have also been used to improve
access to and the quality of teacher
training.
How can ICTs help transform the learning environment
into one that islearner-centered?
Research has shown that the appropriate use of ICTs can
catalyze the paradigmatic shift in both content
and pedagogy that is at the heart of education reform in the
21st century. If designed and
implemented properly, ICT-supported education can
promote the acquisition of the knowledge and
skills that will empower students for lifelong learning.
How have computers and the Internet been
used for teaching and learning?
There are three general approaches to the instructional use
of computers and the Internet, namely:
1) Learning about computers and the Internet, in
which technological literacy is the end goal;
2) Learning with computers and the Internet, in
which the technology facilitates learning across
the curriculum; and
3) Learning through computers and the Internet,
integrating technological skills development
with curriculum applications.
THE MYTHS:
Loosing Control of Learning –
The majority of teachers first priority is to maintain order in the
classroom and to have a controlled learning environment. Any
suggestion of adopting very innovative teaching techniques such
as using ICT is therefore seen as threatening this orderly pattern
and therefore not desirable. There is a genuine fear amongst
many teachers about ICT and scepticism of its value to their
pupils.

WHAT IT IS NOT?
• Not for Any Awards.
• Not for any Fame.
• Not for Show Business
– But as the NEED of the hour.
• No wonder, if we call an IT illiterate as
completely illiterate shall not be a bad
idea. The debate is on to bounce this
festive IT Mantra to the adults and to the
Senior Retired lot who take it as a moral
substitute to their livelihood.
• Schools and Colleges
have an extra
responsibility today to
conduct the novel
phenomenon for
developing the pace of
learning today with
inception of Information
Technology as the means
of Education as the best
and the ultimate
substitute.
• In the next FIVE years things are going to
change more what they have changed in
the last 50 years.
• After 2 years, you shall find this system
prevalent in every school- then why not
WE BE THE FIRST.
• Moreover, this shall make things easier
and faster for us. A computer, of course,
cannot replace a human brain. But can be
very powerful instrument in the hands of
educators and leaders to given a new
dimension to the Education Scenario.
As a matter of fact:
• In the education arena, we
have only begun to harness
the power of technology.
• Technology is an effective tool
for an image-based generation.
• Professional development is
essential to the success of an
instructional technology
implementation.
REQUIREMENT/ Availability
• We need to explore the IT to its capacity
to give an ON LINE visibility and access
for our records.
• The teachers are to be given USER IDs
and Passwords to access and feed their
data like Question Banks and Notes online
for access to our children.
What it offers?
• Helps teacher to visualize the concept
right inside the classroom.
• Is curriculum driven.
• Is incomplete without the teachers.
• Does only what the blackboard and other
conventional teaching tools do not/ cannot
do……………………
And is worth for…….
• Is designed for use within a typical 40 minute teaching
period.
• Gives flexibility to each individual teacher to decide his/
her place of teaching.
• Is most effective when used by a teacher with his/ her
own voice along with the blackboard.
• Provides a framework to teachers to integrate work done
by them with itself.
What Next?
• Instructions to Children towards SAFETY.
• Instructions to Children towards CARE.
• Nomination of class monitors for extra
duties.
• Preparation towards what to Teach and
explore either at the Computer Room or at
the respective STAFF rooms.

The factors which were found to be most
important to these teachers in their teaching were
making the lessons more interesting, easier,
more fun for them and their pupils, more diverse,
more motivating for the pupils and more
enjoyable. Additional more personal factors were
improving presentation of materials, allowing
greater access to computers for personal use,
giving more power to the teacher in the school,
giving the teacher more prestige, making the
teachers’ administration more efficient and
providing professional support through the
