TECHNIQUES OF ANSWERING DIRECTED WTITING:

1. DIRECTED WRITING means GUIDED ESSAY whereby NOTES or STIMULUS or BOTH will be given to help you.

2. You need to have the knowledge of the following:

Descriptive, narrative, expository or argumentative writing. Speeches. Different types of report. Interviews Stories Presenting opinions on social or current issues Descriptions of processes and procedures

 Time allotted : 45 minutes

Read and analyse the question carefully.

Understand clearly the situation, instructions and notes / details given.

Planning Stage : 5 minutes. Jot down for expansion. 6. Use the correct format and tenses 7. Use suitable tone and style appropriately e.g notes

informal letter & speeches

8. Use all notes given. Do not leave anything

out. 9. Make your essay interesting by adding in suitable and varied vocabulary & effective expressions. 10. Check for grammatical errors before handing up. 11. Write a well-organised essay of at least one full page of your test pad.

TIPS TO IMPROVE ESSAY WRITING SKILLS

Smooth flow of ideas and style of writing. Only use bombastic words when you know how to use them appropriately. Read more to acquire information and vocabulary. Spend 30-60 minutes a day to read any English materials. Improve your English by speaking and reading constantly.
