FACT
A refugee is a person
who has been
forced to leave
their country
because it is not
safe for them to
stay.
Look at the case studies…

• Where do refugees come from?

• Why do people have to leave their countries?
• Are there any famous refugees?

Using your facts and your opinions write a short

story or poem about refugees- this will help you
remember the facts!

and made trouble, asking why were women there dressed in Western
style, why were we listening to western music. It was the same kind of
music that people work out to in gyms in the UK, but they said it was
the music of Satan. Sometimes they would break windows and beat
people there and they would padlock the door

How did you start teaching in the UK?
I trained as a teacher in Bosnia so my
qualification wasn’t recognised here. At
first I worked as a bilingual instructor, a
kind of unqualified teacher, with people
newly arrived in the UK. Through that
