Basic Concepts
Office Direction and Sub-route

Office Direction: when one office is connected with the local office directly through trunk line instead of through the tandem office, the route to this office is called an office direction of the local office. Sub-route: Sub-route is an element of the route, indicating the physical channel to another switching equipment. It is composed of several trunk groups which may cross different modules.

Diagram of route composition
In this Figure, A, B, C and D stand for 4 sets of exchange office. It can be found from the figure that A has 3 office directions - B, C and D, and each of them has one sub-route separately - sub-route 1, 2 and 3. The route from A to B includes these 3 sub-routes, in which sub-route 1 is the direct sub-route including 5 trunk groups, and sub-routes 2 and 3 are indirect sub-routes including 4 and 3 trunk groups respectively.

Basic Concepts
Trunk Group

Trunk group is one of the component elements of a subroute. Trunk group is a group of trunk circuits with the same

quality

Basic Concepts
Trunk Circuit

Trunk circuit is the component element of a trunk

group. One trunk circuit occupies one time slot of PCM.

Trunk circuits can be used for voice, synchronization.

CIC (Circuit Identification Code)

CIC is a kind of coding for circuits in CCS7 signaling. CIC of the local office and the remote office connected with the local office should be encoded in a unified way.

Relation between Basic Concepts of Trunk A route can correspond to at most 5 sub-routes, and the selection mode has different ways. The sub-route is composed of trunk groups Trunk groups may be of different circuit types and can exist crossing multi modules, and there are multiple ways for the sub-route to select trunk group. Trunk circuits of the same attributes form a trunk group, and there are multiple ways for the trunk group to select trunk circuits.
