INTRODUCTION
Nursing is a health care profession. Focused on care of individual, families, communities. Attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life.
PROFESSION
DEFINITION: Is an occupation based on specialized intellectual study &training, the purpose of which is to supply skilled service with ethical components to others, for a definite fee or salary.
CHARACTERISTICS OF PROFESSION
Basically intellectual. Based on body of knowledge that can be learned. Practical rather than theoretical. Can be taught through a process of professional education. Has strong internal organisation of members. Has practitioners who are motivated by altruism.
the fundamental truth. (kind of truth will make the person to think & act freely). Have the ability to apply truth in dealing. Be able to remain unafraid of under perplexities of changing basic knowledge demands social condition or personal upsets.
Occupation &profession
Training may occur in the job. Length of training may varies. Value and ethics are not the prominent factor. Commitment and personal identification may vary. Often changes the job. Accountability rest with employer.
Education may take place in college/university. Education may prolonged. Value and ethics are integral part of preparation. commitment and personal identification are strong for the workers. Unlikely to changes the profession. Rest with an individual.
PROFESSIONAL NURSING
Is an art and science dominated by an ideal service in which certain principles are applied in the skillful care of the such an appropriate relationship with others who have related to responsibilities.

NURSING ENCOMPASSES.
Caring for the sick and injured. bringing to bear the resources of patient, his family and environment. Helping an individual and his family to take positive action in relief of illness and improvement of his health needs. Training students and auxillary personal to function as members of the health team.
