Phased Array Training & Certification

PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION and CERTIFICATION Personnel shall be certified per their employers written practice. The employers written practice shall be submitted to NAVSEA for review when an activity requests NAVSEA authorization to perform PAUT/ToFD.

NAVSEA may request additional details of the personnel qualification program including details of the PAUT/TOFD training program and/or perform an onsite review.

INTRIM QUALIFICATION.
An activity may become qualified to perform PAUT and ToFD by Test Examiner demonstrating process proficiency at a NAVSEA approved qualification facility. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, in West Bethesda MD., is an approved facility. Qualification is contingent upon having a currently certified ultrasonic NDT Examiner who meets the minimum PAUT/TOFD training and work experience. Goal to export qualification program to PNS

PAUT/ToFD Training. All inspection personnel shall receive a minimum of 80 hours classroom training in PAUT and a minimum of 40 hours of classroom training in ToFD. PAUT/ToFD Experience. Acquisition inspectors shall have a minimum of 80 hours of work experience Inspector and Test Examiner personnel - 400 hours of work experience Experience may be gained on mock-ups or field joints The minimum hours of work experience may be reduced if the scope of work is limited or if additional oversight is provided. Any reduction in work experience shall be approved by NAVSEA.

Prerequisite. Acquisition & fully certified Inspectors personnel:

Shall have a minimum of 3 years of shear wave UT inspection experience prior to PAUT and ToFD training.
