Bending Methods Using Press Brakes

The manufacturing industry uses a wide variety of tools and equipment for developing quality products for various applications. One can get Amada Pega punch machines, press brakes, and a wide variety of other such equipment for performing varied specialized functions. Press brakes for example are capable of bending metal to any design or shape required. Reliable, reproducible press brakes depend upon a combination involving the press brakes and related tools. This equipment contains two robust frames that constitute its sides. At the bottom is a big table and the top consists of an upper beam. Nowadays the upper beam remains mobile via two hydraulic synchronized cylinders that attach themselves to the frames on both sides of the machine. Different characters that determine the capabilities of press brakes include, Tonnage/Pressure Back Gauge Distance Working Length Stroke Work Height The upper beam operation speed is between 1 and 15 mm/s. In keeping with the introduction of new technologies in every field, nowadays press brakes also feature computer controlled multi-axis bag gauges. Besides this, optical and mechanical sensors allow making of different adjustments during the bending process. The bending process involving press brakes is a geometric combination that involves top tool, bottom tool, along with the speed and pressing force of the press brake itself. So, which are the different bending methods related to CNC press brake?

Wiping method The sheet, which you want to bend remains clamped between clamping beams as the tool begins the bending process from the protruding region of sheet around bend profile via up-and-down movement. This is a fast process where there is a chance of damage and scratches to the surface of the sheet in keeping with the tool movement. This mostly happens when sharp angles are present in the sheet. Wiping method is popular for manufacture of panel like products having profiled small edges.

Folding method This is another common bending method involving the use of press brakes. Here bend beam rises to fold the extended part of the sheet across bend profile. Folding is a popular method because by using it is possible to fold even large sized sheets easily. The automation process is simple ensuring a quick turnaround time with minimum damage to the bent sheets in the process. However, this process requires comparatively large spaces for the folding process to occur smoothly and without complications.
Air bending method In this method, top tool present in the machine presses the sheet into the V-opening to desired depths. However, the sheet doesn't touch the bottom of the tool during the pressing process. This is the type of 3-point bending where just bending radii related to the bottom and top tools come in sheet contact. Single combination involved in the air bending method is capable of producing various profile shapes and products simply with the adjustments to the depth of press stroke. No wonder, this is an extremely flexible technique having a wide variety of applications. As one can see, just like shear blades, press brakes are highly beneficial equipment in the manufacturing industry that ensures precision, accuracy, and desired quality maintenance.
