INTRODUCTION
Electricity is an integral part of human life. In country like ours , where power outage is common we cannot rely on a single power supply. This project uses PLC to automate tasks for the control of operation.

By enhancing this project, the system can be implemented practically in any industries.

OBJECTIVE
A PLC based control system. It is mainly controlled by software, thus eliminates the need for development of complex hardware. Little external circuit, greatly improving the reliability of the system and anti jamming capability.

In this project we are replacing manual operation to automatic operation using Automatic Transfer Switch.

EXISTING SYSTEM
Many
of the existing implementations of diesel generator operations are manual in which operator performs manual switch over. Automatic switch over using SCRs and or uses two individual circuit breakers. Challenges in existing system. The operator may not be present always at site and cannot act instantaneously during power outage.

The manual operator may miss certain steps in execution and results in delay of operation.

PROPOSED SYSTEM
The project uses an open transition switch. It breaks contact before making contact to another system. The project implements automatic transfer switch using PLC to switch load between mains power supply and generator back up. The transfer switch is implemented using Allen Bradley Micrologix 810 PLC. The system is powered by battery so as to ensure the reliable operation even in main power failure.

ADVANTAGES
It is mainly controlled by software, thus eliminates the need for development of complex hardware. Has packed with enough peripherals to control complex control loops. Little external circuit greatly improving the reliability of the system and anti jamming capability.

Can be able to change the control parameters of system without changing systems external hardware connections.

DISADVANTAGES

FUTURE WORK
Hardware Implementation Wiring SCADA System Implementation

CONCLUSIONS
By enhancing this project, the system can be implemented practically in any universities or industries or apartments. By implementing this project, many problems can be overcome related to generator issues, for example ATS switch will switch electric load b/w utility power and generator.

Manual change over switch is replaced by ATS i.e., PLC based ATS switch.
